Dining Out
Pizza and Pints

For those of you who remember Pizza and Pipes Pizzeria -- which was the place to go for celebrations with its festive Wurlitzer Pipe Organ and clapping mechanical monkey -- new owner Jenefer Cauraugh just debuted the new Pizza and Pints Family Pizzeria to fill the void. Aiming to be the new family hangout in town,  Pizza and Pints recently launched a soft opening on  Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, and expects to be open 7 days a week once they have their grand opening in the fall.  For now, guests can enjoy Family Karaoke on Friday nights with DJ Purple, who invites everyone to sing and dance. For more information click here , and stay tuned for more updates about their grand opening.

Waiting for Godot - Sept. 16 - Oct. 2

Voted "the most significant English-language play of the 20th century" in a survey of playwrights, Waiting for Godot is considered a masterpiece of surrealist existentialism.  Two wandering vagabonds, Vladimir and Estragon, wait by a lonely tree to meet up with Mr. Godot, an enigmatic figure in a world where time, place and memory are blurred and meaning is where you find it. The men hope that Godot will change their lives for the better.  Instead, two eccentric travelers arrive, one man on the end of the other's rope.  The results are both funny and dangerous.  For tickets and to learn more, click here

Stanford Speaker Series
How to Raise an Adult

Date: Sept. 8, 2016
Time: 5:30 - 7:00pm
Cost: Free and open to the community
Location: Fox Theatre

New York Times best selling author Julie Lythcott-aims spent a decade as Stanford University's Dean of Freshmen, where she was known for both her fierce advocacy for students and her equally fierce critique of the growing trend of parental involvement in the day-to-day lives of college students. Her book "How to Raise an Adult: Break Free of the Overparenting Trap and Prepare Your Kid for Success" draws on research, conversations with admissions officers, educators, employers, and on her own insights as a mother and as a student dean. It highlights the ways in which overparenting harms children, their stressed-out parents and society at large. While empathizing with the parental hopes and fears that lead to overhelping, Lythcott-Haims offers practical alternative strategies that underline the importance of allowing children to make their own mistakes and develop the resilience, resourcefulness and inner determination necessary for success.  To RSVP, click here.

Around the Town
Chase the Chill

Chase the Chill, founded by Susan Huxley in Easton, Pennsylvania in 2008, collect hand-made scarves (crochet, knit, felt, weave) for distribution to local communities. The Redwood City chapter will set up various collection sites this October so that the scarves may be distributed in November 2016. For those who have free time and want to be involved, this is a great way to meet like-minded people and contribute to the community. The scarves will be hung in a few locales (to be announced) around town, and each gets a tag which reads: "Take this scarf if you are cold or if you like it."  The chapter wants to provide these scarves for those who need or want a new scarf for chilly fall/winter nights.
