International Day Speakers

Friday, October 14th, is International Day at Heritage Christian School, and we are looking for speakers!  If you know someone who has lived for a good period of time in another country and would be willing to come and share with our students about that country, please contact Sarah Lounsbrough or Laura Bailey ([email protected] or [email protected] ), or call the school office.
Dress Code Revisions
To address some confusion with the school's dress code, some revisions have been made to simplify it and bring clarity. Please take the time to review the revisions with your children and work to help them understand the expectations in light of the goals listed. While there has been some grace extended since school started this year regarding enforcement, we ask that you ensure your students are dressed according to the expectations. On Monday, September 19, the teachers will be strictly enforcing these expectations in the classrooms. These revisions have been made in the Parent Student Handbook and the process for handling non-compliance is described on p. 21. An excerpt from the handbook with just the details of the dress code can be found here.
Volunteer Screening Process - Now Online!
The Volunteer Application Screening Process is now available online. You can visit our website and click on the Volunteer Application icon under Parent Hub on the home page or click here to access the application. You'll choose the volunteer option and then click on the form for the volunteer opportunity you would like to apply for. One item to note is that if you will be driving for a field trip, we need a copy of your drivers license as well as a copy of your declarations page showing your vehicle insurance limits (not just the insurance card as in previous years.) If you have questions, contact Lisa Turnbough at [email protected].

Correction: An error was made regarding the highlights from last Thursday when the Eagles 7/8th Volleyball Girls faced Pathway Christian. It should have read: In the third set of the night Haley Tackaberry was able to serve nine times leading the Eagles to victory with a score of 25-8.

Soccer Game Results:
5/6 HCS Eagles Win Opener
The Eagles started their season with a 2-1 win Monday afternoon against Trinity Lutheran in Cedar Rapids.  Corey Holman got the Eagles on the board with 13:58 remaining in the first half.  Off a Zander Edkin corner, Holman played a nifty shot that found the back of the net that gave HCS a 1-0 lead.  Just one minute later Holman had his second goal of the game with the assist coming from Idara Ituk.  The half ended with the Eagles holding the 2-0 advantage.  It was a defensive battle the entire 2nd half with Trinity scoring a late goal in the waning minute. The match ended seconds later with the Eagles 2-1 victory.

5/6 HCS Eagles Soar Past Central Lutheran
The HCS 5/6 soccer team used great ball control and a solid defensive effort to thwart the Central Lutheran Cougars on Tuesday afternoon.  The Eagles kept constant pressure on the Cougars, scoring 5 goals in the 1st half.  Zander Edkin started the assault with a breakaway run and goal.  After a Central Lutheran hand ball in the box, Edkin had his second goal off of a PK. The Eagles pressure was relentless and goals number 3 and 4 came from assists by Corey Holman, one to Brock Sherman and the other to Trey Schweitzer.  The Cougars had yet another hand ball in the box, resulting in a beautiful PK sneaking in under the crossbar by Zachary Ahrens. The half ended in a 5-0 lead for HCS.  A 5-0 halftime lead allowed the Eagles to pull some starters and use the 2nd half to experiment with moving players to different positions.  The defense remained steadfast and the match ended with the Eagles winning 5-0.  The win moves HCS to a 2-0 start to the season!  GO EAGLES!

Varsity Eagles off to Impressive Start
The Heritage Varsity Soccer team started the year with a pair of victories over Trinity Lutheran (2-1) and Central Lutheran (7-0).
Corey Holman and Trey Montgomery teamed up in goal to keep Trinity off the scoreboard for almost the entire game. The Trojans only managed a goal when the outcome was no longer in doubt. Spencer Holman and Adu Habte provided all the fire power needed as the Eagles downed Trinity 2-1. Ethan Bailey, Cael Austin, Cale Dawson, and Jordan Robinson turned in great defensive efforts to thwart and confound the Trojan offense.

In Newhall on Tuesday the Eagles had little trouble dispatching Central Lutheran as Hunter Schau set a school record with 5 assists in a 7-0 rout of the Cougars. Schau also scored along with Sam Young, Eli Young (2), Adu Habte (2), and Spencer Holman. Zander Edkin and Sam Young also had assists for the Eagles who had 21 shots on goal. Corey Holman and Trey Montgomery teamed up for 5 saves and a clean sheet against the Cougars who managed little offense from a stout Heritage defense led again by the Austin/Bailey back line and supported by Kaleb Turnbough, Jordan Robinson, and Cale Dawson.

The Eagles are back in action on Tuesday, September 20th in Williamsburg against Lutheran Interparish School.  Make the drive out to Williamsburg and see "What's Next".

Volleyball Game Results:
The 5th/6th girls got their first win of the season against Isaac Newton in 2 sets with a scores of 25-21 and 25-10.  Strong serving and hustling after the ball paid off well for the girls.
7/8 Eagles Volleyball defeated the Patriots 3-0.
Set 1 was close until Middle Hitter Dayna Wichhart fired up her teammates with a strong kill to lead her team to a 25-18 victory.  Set 2 was dominated by the team's Setter Hailey Tackaberry delivering 17 straight serves to lead her team to a 25-3 victory.  The Eagles continued strong into set 3 with a 25-16 victory.
