Pastors are special people! I cannot think of another vocation
that takes such commitment
and dedication like that of being a pastor. You a
re always serving people, working long hours, managing with shortages of staff and volun
teers, earning small pay checks, often receiving little appreciation and the list goes on.
People have said to me, "Someday I want to be a pastor." O
ften my reply to them is, "Really! Do you know what you are saying?" Every time I interview people for credentials I ask them to tell me about their calling. Without the call from God you will never make it in the ministry. It takes a special call and a special person to be a pastor. A good pastor is also a good shepherd. The shepherd protects their sheep. They don't allow the sheep to wander off. They make sure the sheep have good nourishment. And when the sheep are sick and in need, they administer the care that is needed.
The demands of the ministry are unending. Sometimes our day never ends. The ministry puts strains on our family and at times we may even question our calling or our desire to continue on.
We pray for endurance. Endurance is the power to withstand pain or hardships; the ability or strength to continue despite fatigue, stress or other adverse conditions. I have discovered endurance only comes through prayer, commitment and knowing that you are called by God for such a day as this. I want you to know that you are significant. You are special and you are loved! My prayer is that God will abundantly reward you for your labors.
Be encouraged by these verses:
"And let us not grow weary of doing good,
for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up." Galatians 6:9 ESV
"...but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint." Isaiah 40:31 ESV
"And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches
in glory in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:19 ESV
PRAYER REQUEST: Please be in prayer for Rev. Marvin Wilber, pastor at Couderay, who suffered a stroke on Labor Day which has affected his mind and speech.

THERE ARE NO UNREACHED CHILDREN
I first read the above statement in a position paper put out by the Third Lausanne Congress on World Evangelism. At first I was taken back. Obviously there are unreached children. This is not debatable. But in the first sentence I saw what they meant.
"Children are being reached from every angle by political parties, other faiths, secularism, corporation and a myriad of other causes." Can I say Pokémon Go?!
Kids are being reached. When I was in Kenya the church leaders were desperate for funds to reach kids. The Muslims in their communities were pouring boatloads of money into sports programs, etc. to reach kids.
As a church we need to realize that the kids in our communities are being reached. Even the kids in our church buildings are being reached by those who do not identify with Christ. It is our goal to make sure that they are reached for Christ.

HE IS IN CONTROL
Recently, I was trekking in the mountains in India with our team. When you are walking in the mountains, there is ample time for conversations with God and those journeying with you. Some of our discussions and experiences highlighted some real life challenges. Difficult things like politics, racial tensions, spiritual oppression, work challenges, family situations, and such became part of the conversation. These conversations can produce a sense of being overwhelmed. Actually, the product of these conditions / situations are: worry, discouragement, fear, envy, regret, loneliness and self-pity. It can produce all kinds of responses, but ultimately, there is a realization that things are certainly out of control.
Then one morning in the Himalayas ... I woke up next to my son with an amazing view just outside our tent as the sun came. I sat down to do my devotions. Part of my routine is to read from a book by Paul David Tripp, called New Morning Mercies. As I was reading, he started to speak about these very things. He talked about how we can feel as if it is us against the world. In the middle of it, he posed an incredible question - What if our world view resembled the world view of Daniel?

The summer ended as fast as it came and we are headed full steam into retreat se
ason as the District's 50+ Retreat kicks off on September 8th followed by two weddings on the 10th! We are thankful for another full and safe summer of camps and retreats. The combined totals for the District's 2016 youth and kids' camp attendance were the highest s
ince 2010 with kids' camps having their highest year ever. We get excited thinking about how many lives met with God this summer and the impact those encounters will have for a lifetime!
The next few months are going to be busy as retreat weekends roll through and we start preparing for the
Taste of Christmas at Spencer Lake on
Saturday, December 3rd from 10AM - 5PM. We would love to see you come out and enjoy the festive atmosphere as we invest into the community the love of Christ and the celebration of His birth. We had 3,000 people come last year and expect another great turnout this year. You can find information about the event
on Facebook under Waupaca's Taste of Christmas and on our website at
http://spencer-lake.org/index.php/events/taste-of-christmas.

Thank you for the prayer support for our team as we walked through a particularly tough season and year. Most of you are aware Mollie, my Admin and Office Manager, lost her husband, Mike, after a grueling
6-month fight against cancer
on July 3rd as we headed into Family Camp. We are still processing that as a team and are walking alongside Mollie
and her two sons. We have lots of great memories of Mike's time on our team and for that we are thankful and rejoice that he is in the presence of our Savior.
