Adaptation Pathways 1.0: A Guide for Navigating Sea-Level Rise in the Built Environment
A new report summarizes the 3rd Sea-Level Rise Summit organized by the Florida Center for Environmental Studies (FAU). The goal of the Summit was to produce a first-generation roadmap for adaptation by translating knowledge and ideas into action. More >
Biodiversity in Salt Marshes Builds Climate Resilience
New research led by Christine Angelini (UF) shows that a mutualistic relationship -- where two organisms benefit from each other's activities -- between ribbed mussels and salt marsh grasses may play a critical role in helping salt marshes bounce back from extreme climate events such as drought. More >
Study Measures Methane Release from Arctic Permafrost
A University of Alaska Fairbanks-led research project co-authored by Jeff Chanton (FSU) has provided the first modern evidence of a landscape-level permafrost carbon feedback, in which thawing permafrost releases ancient carbon as climate-warming greenhouse gases. More >
Researchers Pinpoint Abrupt Onset of Modern Day Indian Ocean Monsoon System
A new international study with participants from the University of Miami reveals the exact timing of the onset of the modern monsoon pattern in the Maldives 12.9 million years ago, and its connection to past climate changes and coral reefs in the region. More >
New Study Analyzes African Dust Crossing Atlantic Ocean
Scientists at the University of Miami took advantage of this year's dust season to study the aging of these aerosol particles that travel across the Atlantic Ocean from Africa to Florida. The study took place this summer and will help improve weather and climate forecasts, including our understanding of the early development of tropical storms. More >
Studying the Effects of Smoke on Earth's Climate
Paquita Zuidema (UM) is leading an international research campaign to study a significant contributor to regional climate warming - smoke. The first-of-its-kind research experiment began June 1 from Ascension Island in the southeastern Atlantic Ocean. More >
Impact of Man-Made Structures on Louisiana's Coastal Wetlands
As Louisiana's wetlands continue to disappear at an alarming rate, a new study from the University of Miami pinpoints the man-made structures that disrupt the natural water flow and threaten these important
 ecosystems.  More >
Podcast on Florida Climate Change Adaptation
In Episode #4 of his new America Adapts podcast, Doug Parsons, former Climate Change Coordinator for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), talks with current FWC research scientist Bob Glazer about how Florida is adapting to climate change. More >
Sea Level Solutions Center Opens at Miami Beach Urban Studios
The Sea Level Solutions Center (FIU) is announcing its official opening at the Miami Beach Urban Studios. This unique partnership will enable continued interdisciplinary activities and data-driven work on sea level solutions and further partnerships in the Miami Beach community. More >
Ahead of the Tide Video Premier & Webinar Series
Ahead of the Tide, in partnership with the CLEO Institute, will launch a FREE interactive webinar series to create a platform for the general public to interact with nationally recognized experts to create community-based solutions to sea level rise. The series will kick off with a  video premiere and live forum at the University of Miami on Sept. 20.
Save the Date! 10/12 UF Climate Communications Summit
Please join us October 12 for the University of Florida's 2nd annual campus-wide climate communications summit: Higher Ground: Science, Storytelling and the Climb toward Better Understanding of Climate Change. The event will be streamed online and feature speakers from Yale, InsideClimate News, and The Miami Herald. More >
