PREECLAMPSIA FOUNDATION NEWS

Can you help us "party with a purpose"?
Are you a host or hostess with the mostest? Do you enjoy making a difference for a great cause? If you'd like to join the fun, we need your help with this fall's special fundraising campaign called Faces of Preeclampsia: Party with a Purpose!

We're asking you to represent the Faces of Preeclampsia by hosting a Party with a Purpose at your home as an informal and informative way to engage your circle of family, friends, and colleagues. Join with dozens of families across the country this fall as they have fun for a great cause!

Your party can be whatever you'd like it to be...a wine tasting, trivia night, etc. We're encouraging our hosts to keep their events simple and personal.

To make it as easy as possible for our hosts, we've prepared a Party with a Purpose checklist and supply box with everything you need to host a party of your own (except food and beverage!). We'd like to schedule these parties from October 1 through December 17.

Are you interested in helping this cause that directly impacts moms and babies? If you are or would like more information, please contact Sara Gauthier, Donor Relations Coordinator, at 800-665-9341 or [email protected].
Your voice represented on patient safety council
The Council on Patient Safety for Women's Health Care recently voted to accept the Preeclampsia Foundation as one of its 18 voting members. Other members include professional organizations that represent physicians, nurses, midwives, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare providers, academicians, and others involved with execution of quality improvement programs. We are in excellent company as the ONLY advocacy organization representing patients. In addition, there are two seats for individual patient advocates; those two individuals have three-year terms.

The members of the Council review, vote, and endorse patient safety bundles and other products, awards, and training developed by this cross-disciplinary organization, to which we heavily contribute. Some of these guidelines include: Hypertension in Pregnancy; Patient, Family and Staff Support; Maternal Mental Health; and others that are central to the Foundation's mission.
Maternal Health Task Force features Foundation staff blog
The Preeclampsia Foundation has a long, proud history of representing the patient voice through advocating for empowered, informed patients. We have sometimes been challenged by providers, who ask: "Why should patients be educated? How can patient education change outcomes?"

The great news is that an ever-growing body of research (to which our organization and your stories have contributed!) shows the difference that preeclampsia patient education can and DOES make to patient outcomes. That research has now become a part of care practice improvements across the world.

Director of Community Relations Laney Poye recently guest blogged on the Maternal Health Task Force blog about why patient understanding of symptoms and the severity of preeclampsia and eclampsia is crucial to improve outcomes and prevent maternal death.
Read and share on your own social media channels to raise awareness about why empowered, informed patients MATTER!
Support the Foundation through this year's CFC campaign!
If you're a federal employee, please give to the Preeclampsia Foundation during the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) season that runs September 1 through December 15.

Use CFC #99819 to designate your contribution to the Preeclampsia Foundation. Thank you for your support!

Mission moment: Words of thanks
It's always rewarding to hear when we've made a difference! We'd like to thank Beth F. for her note of thanks:

"My little sister Sarah was pregnant with her first and with my history of preeclampsia/HELLP/eclampsia and the documents and information provided by you, she was able to be spared the worse. When her blood pressure started creeping up and protein showed up, the doctor sent her immediately to the hospital to be monitored where she was induced shortly after! Two days later, she had a healthy baby girl Noelle, at 37 weeks. I am thankful to you for the information and my history of preeclampsia to save her from catastrophe! Much thanks, Beth."
New ribbon magnets spotlight preeclampsia and HELLP!
We're excited to announce two new products in our online Marketplace to represent survivors and loved ones! We were particularly moved by requests from HELLP syndrome survivors to create a ribbon for their HELLP experiences.

These 8"x4" magnetic awareness ribbons are great ways to spread the word about preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome. Wording on the side of the ribbon reads: "Preeclampsia Awareness" or "HELLP Awareness" with the Preeclampsia Foundation logo at the top. There's a limited supply so get yours for $4 each before they're gone!
