Water Efficiency Tip

Designate one glass for your drinking water each day or refill a water bottle. This will cut down on the number of glasses to wash.
Summer lawn care

A beautiful, plush green lawn is the envy of everyone's neighborhood. So why are so many lawns beginning to turn brown?

Most lawns in Highlands Ranch are Kentucky bluegrass. This is a cool-season grass that loves cool temperatures in the spring and fall. When Mother Nature gives us extended periods of hot, dry periods during summer months it can trigger the grass to go into early dormancy. This is indicated by grass turning brown and looking like it has died. The grass and roots are alive and well; it's simply the dry weather and heat that has caused the blades to lose color and the lawn to move into early dormancy.

You can save money and water by resisting the urge to increase the amount you water and allowing your lawn to go into early dormancy. A low amount of water now helps ensure the lawn will recover and bounce back when precipitation increases and temperatures cool in the fall.
Water saving tips as kids head back to school

As kids head back to school and routines are getting back into place, set a good example and add water conserving tips to their morning ritual.
  1. Use a timer to limit the length of showers.
  2. Reuse your towels. Don't toss them in the hamper after one use.
  3. Turn off tap water when you brush your teeth.
  4. Rinse all breakfast dishes at once.
  5. Pack a reusable water bottle in your lunch and reuse it each day.
