September 8, 2016

Next Monday, September 12, is our Club Sign Up Day. Students will have an opportunity during their homeroom period to walk around and talk to representatives from various CJ clubs and sign up for clubs that sound interesting to them. From the Anime Club to Mock Trial and even Extreme Bots - CJ has a club for just about any student interest. And c lubs provide a wonderful opportunity for us to enhance the education of the whole person at CJ.

Parents can check out the clubs information page here and students can check the Student News website for more information about the wide variety of clubs offered at Chaminade Julienne as well as details about meeting times.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on Club Sign Up Day.

NEWS

FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S OFFICE
Parents have reported receiving letters from an organization called C3 - www.c3workshop.com The letter contains information regarding attending a workshop to learn more about college financial aid. The website states, " There is no cost for attending the workshop or the personal interview. Additional services are made available to those students and families needing our assistance."

Please be assured that Chaminade Julienne does not participate in selling or sharing our mailing lists and parent information with outside organizations - they obtain contact information by other means.

These workshops, while potentially helpful, include much of the same information about the financial aid process and college search that we offer through Family Connection and Naviance. Your 9th grade students have received login information and our Guidance office will be working with those students to use Family Connection's tools in the college process, including financial aid. You can read the Guidance Bulletin and follow our Guidance page at link  to receive the most up-to-date information.

MINISTRY & SERVICE

From the Chaplain's Office
Next Wednesday, September 14, we will have an All School Liturgy.  With the Church, we will celebrate the Feast of the Exultation of the Holy Cross.  Every time we gather for Eucharist, we remember the saving Passion and Resurrection of the Lord.  This special feast day is a moment for us to remember the great mercy of God as shown through the cross of Jesus, recalling that "God proves his love for us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8).  As we near the end of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy declared by Pope Francis, the CJ community will reflect on God's mercy for us and how we can be instruments of God's mercy in our world.  As always, you are invited to join us at Mass at Emmanuel Church.

Service Fair
Area agencies have been invited to participate in our annual Service Fair on Tuesday, Sept. 13.  All juniors will attend the fair and have the opportunity to talk with these agency representatives, and even sign up with an agency where they wish to do their required 25 hours of service.  This is part of their Integrated Social Justice Research project.  A letter will be sent home to parents this week with more details.  Both parents and students are asked to sign the letter and return to the student's religion teacher.

September Kairos Retreat
A reminder that any student who will need to take medication while attending Kairos must turn in a form to the nurse this week. All medication must also be turned into the nurse before departing for the retreat.

Letter of Recommendation Requests Update
Students are now able to request letters of recommendation for college applications through their Family Connection/Naviance account. The system has been updated and we hope to see a few changes over the next few weeks. Seniors  received  an email with a video to help them through the Letter of Recommendation process. Students still need to request all letters in person and should see Mrs. Saunders if they need help.
