UNCF APPLAUDS CONGRESS FOR A $22 MILLION
INCREASE IN FEDERAL FUNDING FOR HBCUs

UNCF led a coalition of historically black colleges and universities and other minority-serving institutions in persuading Congress to appropriate an additional $22 million in funding for HBCUs. The funding was included in the federal Fiscal Year 2016 Consolidated Appropriations Act passed in December and boosts the Title III, Strengthening Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), program administered by the U.S. Department of Education. The infusion is the largest funding increase in six years.

UNCF President and CEO Dr. Michael L. Lomax stated, "This much-needed federal investment in HBCUs recognizes that these institutions are an important part of our national commitment to ensure that every student has a shot at earning a college degree." More
