ELCA LIFE

We will say "Farewell" to the Class of 2016 on Saturday, May 21 at 10:00 AM.

Best of luck to each of you! We know you are well-prepared for the path God has for your future!

Just a few more days to complete the SURVEY

Dear ELCA Parents,

Every five years the school undergoes the process of "re-accreditation" with AdvancED, and we are embarking on the journey toward our re-accreditation visit from an AdvancED accreditation team in March of 2017.

The AdvancED/SACS Accreditation Process is a comprehensive program of evaluation and external review supported by research-based standards.  It is dedicated to helping schools (both public and private), districts and education providers to continuously improve.

To ensure continuous improvement, we will undergo an extensive internal review of our practices. One of the first parts of this process is an AdvanceED/SACS survey of stakeholders that includes parents, staff and students at each level.

The objective of the surveys is to understand various perspectives of stakeholders, to improve communication with stakeholders, and to gain valuable data for decision-making as we look to determine areas for improvement. Results of the surveys will serve to guide our internal review process.

The link will be open through Friday, May 20, however, please complete the survey at your earliest convenience. It should take less than 10 minutes and all survey results are completely anonymous. We appreciate and value the feedback that stakeholders will provide throughout this process. Thank you in advance for your participation!

Memory Project Update
A Must-See "Thank You" Video

The NJAHS(National Junior Art Honor Society)/NAHS(National Art Honor Society), as well as Mrs. Batchelor's Accountability Group recently participated in the Memory Project (memoryproject.org) for Bolivian children.

The Memory Project is a nonprofit organization that invites art teachers and their students to create portraits for youth around the world who have faced substantial challenges, such as neglect, abuse, loss of parents, and extreme poverty.

The portraits help the children feel valued and important, to know that many people care about their well being, and to act as meaningful pieces of personal history in the future. For the art students, this is an opportunity to creatively practice kindness and global awareness.

High School artists were Ali Austin, Alyssa Aguirre, Eriana Ansley, Heather Perkerson, Jordyn Street, Katie McDonald, Kaylah Bruno, Kennedy Thomas, Madison Shelnutt, Nicole Gipson, Olivia Tinsley, Rachel Edge, Sara Edge, and Wennie Duan. Middle School artists were Bella Bell, Chance Askew, Delaney Terry, Grace Shockley, Joseph, White, Madeline Reagan and Mitch Hazel. The project was funded by the Fine Arts Patrons. Below is a "Thank You" letter with a link to a very moving video from the founder of The Memory Project.

Dear Ms. Batchelor and Artists,

I'm very happy to let you know that the kids in Bolivia have received the portraits, and you will see in the video that they absolutely loved them!

This video begins with an introduction personalized for you, and then shows many children receiving their portraits together at the different organizations that were involved.  Please feel welcome to share this video with your administrators, school board, and school community as a way of celebrating the accomplishments of your art program!

I think you will also be pleased to know that we were able to make a collective financial donation of $4,100 to help support the kids' education, thanks to the participation fees you contributed.  So please be proud that you helped to provide that gift along with the portraits.

Thanks so much to all of you for being part of the Memory Project.  You have given these children meaningful keepsakes to last a lifetime.  I hope you'll be involved again!

Most Gratefully,

Ben Schumaker
