Senator Mitchell to Keynote WACA Conference
|
America and Global Megatrends
George J. Mitchell is a highly regarded and impartial American diplomat who knows how to bring peace to troubled regions. He served as U.S. Special Envoy for Middle East Peace from 2009 to 2011. The primary architect of the 1998 Good Friday Agreement for peace in Northern Ireland, an historic accord ending decades of conflict, he was awarded the U.S. Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1999.
A Democrat, he served as U.S. Senator from Maine from 1980 to 1995, and Senate Majority Leader from 1989 to 1995.
He was the main investigator in two "Mitchell Reports": one on the Arab-Israeli conflict (2001), and the other on the use of performance-enhancing drugs in professional baseball (2007).
Senator Mitchell currently serves as Chairman Emeritus of the law firm DLA Piper.
