WEEKLY PROGRESS REPORT:
Texas is in the Game!

Traditionally, Labor Day is the launching point for the General Election. Of course, your Dallas County Democratic Party (DCDP) got a head start months ago. We've been knocking on doors every weekend, hosting phone banks twice a week, and distributing a comprehensive Voter Guide. We've already visited 15,000 Democratic homes. We're not about to lose our home court advantage in blue Dallas County.

Our Annual Labor Day Picnic was a great success. About 400 Democrats attended along with more than 50 elected officials and candidates on this year's ballot. Clubs and candidates staffed booths in the center of the newly remodeled Club Rio. Participants brought home-cooked dishes and the Party furnished fried chicken, hot dogs and a healthy portion of "Let's Get Fired Up!" to inspire all Democrats to fight for our ideas and our candidates this cycle.

Hillary Clinton is ahead of Donald Trump in Texas by one percentage point! This according to a poll, released on Tuesday, by The Washington Post/Survey Monkey. Granted, other pollsters have Trump ahead, but even then, his lead in Texas appears to be in the single digits. This is significant. In 2012, McCain beat Obama in Texas by 12 points. Obviously, we are not going to let these polls go to our head, and we won't take anything for granted. However, Texas is in the game. With your help, we can make a difference! This could be a historic opportunity to win back some House District seats, compete for the Fifth District Court of Appeals, and have a wide margin of victory in countywide races. It won't happen without your participation to help get out the vote. Use the links below to volunteer or donate.

The Republican Dallas County District Attorney resigned. After her two-year battle with mental illness, Susan Hawk announced Tuesday that she would leave office. We meant what we told the press: "We wish the best for her, and we know her decision was difficult, both personally and professionally." The timing was unfortunate. It's too late for the voters to select her replacement. Republican Governor Gregg Abbott will appoint someone to finish her term. However, in 2018, when Dallas County voters get to decide who our top law enforcement officer will be, I am confident our party will nominate an outstanding candidate who will ultimately be victorious, and will be our next elected DA.

The Dallas Morning News endorsed Hillary Clinton! Yes, you read that correctly. For those of us who have lived in Dallas more than a few years, it's a shock. This is the first time, in the 131-year history of the paper, that it has endorsed a Democrat for President. Granted, their editorial noted that "Donald Trump is no Republican!" With that reasoning, there was no "Republican" to endorse, but the News took the extra step and endorsed Hillary Clinton. And, just when you thought it couldn't get any better ...

The Clinton/Kaine Campaign is sending volunteers to US! This week, we were contacted by the North Texas Organizer for the Clinton/Kaine Campaign with some great news. She has been instructed by the Campaign to work with the DCDP Coordinated Campaign and to help recruit volunteers to work with us to elect down-ballot candidates. It makes a lot of sense for us to work together, but we still consider this action to be both generous and much appreciated. Please join forces with the Clinton/Kaine Campaign and the DCDP Coordinated Campaign by helping in one of the following ways:

Yours Democratically,
