Get Ready for Dog Days - Back to Business Day!

When Is it?
Please come to the school gym for  Back to Business (without your children/no childcare provided) to complete the required LWSD paperwork for back to school business on  Wednesday, August 31st, 2016 .

Come by anytime on Wednesday, August 31st during your time frame: 
  • 8:30 am and 11:30 am for last names starting with letters A-L
  • OR 12:30 pm - 3:00 pm for last name starting with letters M-Z
Teacher assignments will be given out after required paperwork is completed! The school will NOT be posting lists and you will not meet your teacher until the following day (see "Meet and Greet" date below). 

Where Is It?
This event takes place in the  gym, entry is via the door in the covered area (near the playground) and exit will be by gym bathrooms.

What Do I Need To Bring and Prepare Before Back To Business Day?

1. Log in (or sign up) for LWSD Parent Access. Go to following link and click 'Register Now':  http://www.lwsd.org/Parents/Parent-Access/Pages/default.aspx 

2. Fill out emergency information on Parent Access here:   http://www.lwsd.org/Parents/Pages/Default.aspx (login to Parent Access and click on  Skyward Family Access under "For All Parents" on the right. Then click on the  Online Student Information Verification button). Please take the time NOW to complete.
3. Please log in to your Norman Rockwell PTA site and review/update your Account Information by clicking on this link:  https://normanrockwellpta.ourschoolpages.com/Account/Summary 

What Do I Need To Bring?
Bring your checkbook (credit cards cannot be accepted)! You will not need to bring students'  school supplies with you however you will be able to pay any supply fees and/or add money to their lunch account (payment by check only, separate checks required). To add money to your student's lunch account online visit  Parent Access. If you already have an account, log in.  If you are new, go to "Register Now".

What Happens on Back to Business Day?

In addition to the PTA items you just completed online, you will be filling out the following  school district forms in person on Back to Business Day.
  • Nurse Alert Form*
  • LWSD Request to Prevent Disclosure of Directory Information
  • Student Housing Questionnaire
  • Emergency Notification Card - Elementary
    • Complete and/or update this form online in advance See this link  http://www.lwsd.org/Parents/Pages/Default.aspx and read about Online Student Verification and Skylert! This year LWSD is asking that all parents review and edit ONLINE. Please take the time NOW to complete.
  • PTA information release form
*Did you receive a letter from the nurse for your student's at school health or medication needs?  Fill it out and bring it with you, along with medications, if you haven't sent it in already.   Medications for Life-Threatening conditions must be received before Sept. 6.

5:00 pm -5:30 pm in the gym 
Kindergarten Parents learn important information about Rockwell Elementary and the first day of school
 
Thursday, Sept. 1: *Curriculum Night (for parents):
                                        
Grades K -- 2 Curriculum Night in Gym 5:40 pm - 6:00  pm, followed by  Curriculum Night in Classroom  6:00 pm - 6:45 pm
 
Grades 3 - 5 Curriculum Night in Gym 6:50 pm - 7:10 pm, followed by  Curriculum Night in Classroom  7:15 pm - 8:00 pm
 
*These events are PARENT ONLY. No Childcare provided. 
 
Tuesday, Sept. 6:  First day of School - Grades 1 - 5. 
Parents: Join us by the flagpole after the bell rings for a coffee with old and new friends. Kindergarten parents welcome too!

Wednesday, September 7th  is a  full  day;  8:25 am-3 pm . ( Wednesday, September 14th  starts the Early Dismissal schedule  8:25 am -1:30 pm)
                
Friday, Sept. 9:  First day of School - Kindergarten         

Friday, Sept. 16: Back to School BBQ/Food Trucks 5pm - 7:30 pm (More info to come)

Can you volunteer for a shift to help make our Business Day go smoothly? Please see the Sign Up for more information. Also needed: Bilingual Volunteers to offer help with translation during Business Day!

If you can't find the list that was sent home in June, or you are new to our school, please find the supply lists by grade on the school website. 
BACK TO SCHOOL COFFEE 

It's that time of year when kids get to go back to school and parents get to enjoy a cup of coffee while it's still hot. Please join us on  Tuesday, September 6th for a quick "cup of Joe" and some treats after the morning school bell rings. It's a great time to say hello to familiar faces and to meet some new ones. Kindergarten Parents - please join us too!

We will see you first day of school in front of the school - near the flagpole.

Bugle Article Submissions Welcome
  
The Beagle Bugle welcomes article submissions from students and parents .  Student journalists may submit articles about current events, students opinion-editorials and poems or short stories.  Parents may submit articles about PTA events and school related topics. 

Any article that is unrelated to PTA or Rockwell must be approved by the Lake Washington School District, and may be submitted to the Peach Jar E-flyer system.  The Lake Washington School District website has more information on the submission and approval process.

Short pieces will be edited for inclusion in the Bugle, longer pieces will be posted on the website with a link in the Bugle.  The Deadline for submissions for the next weekly Bugle is the preceding Thursday.  The Bugle Staff reserves the right to be selective regarding the materials that are publicized.
