September, or
#ZESTEMBER, is a time for taking stock, refreshing your body and mind in preparation for the wintry months ahead.
The focus for this week's #Zestember, or a zesty and healthy September, looks at improving your sleep. Of course, if we sleep better then we have a chance of waking up feeling refreshed.
With the summer holidays all but a dream behind us, here's some inspiration to create a relaxing and refreshing bedroom that will help you sleep more soundly.

1) ORGANISE YOUR BEDROOM
Some bedrooms have the luxury of nothing but a bed in the room but other bedrooms or a mixture of bedroom (office), office (desk/laptop) and gym (workout equipment).
If your room is multi-function, I recommend you try and separate your room into different areas. For example, the bed would be the main feature in the room but a desk could be in one corner and also used as a dressing table. Just make sure your paperwork and stationery is organised to suit your individual needs because this will prevent the area from becoming cluttered.
A less cluttered room will help your mind to sleep more soundly because you are not being reminded of the mess. It will also help you to physically sleep more soundly because there is usually less dust with less clutter.
2) ADD A PIECE OF PERSONALITY
A bedroom is your personal space where you can add elements of your personality that will help you sleep soundly.
Maybe you have feature wallpaper that soothes your mind, a special photograph that reminds you of loved ones, or an heirloom piece of furniture that makes you feel comfortable and secure.
Any items in a bedroom should promote feelings of happiness, making you feel relaxed and helping you sleep.
3) CHOOSE PALE OR SOFT TONES OF COLOUR
Strong bright colours will activate your mind, which is why you find neutral or soft tones of colour in hotel bedrooms... they help you sleep more soundly.
That's not to say that you shouldn't have a strong colour in a bedroom because a bold colour can often help to lift a colour scheme and refresh the energy in a bedroom. You just need to be careful with the proportions of strong colours that you use in a bedroom, or somewhere that you want to relax. I'd recommend a maximum of 15% of a strong colour in a bedroom to ensure your bedroom is calming so that you get a good nights rest.
