Carter: Iran is a constant reminder of Blumenthal's failure as a US Senator

BETHEL, CT - Republican US Senate candidate Dan Carter commented on the revelation by the Obama administration that a total of $1.3 Billion was paid out to Iran in January, contingent upon the release of American hostages.

"I think the biggest question I have is why are we giving money to a country who would hold Americans hostage in the first place," asked Carter.

"After nearly forty years the Obama Administration, co-signed by Senator Blumenthal, decided it was time to roll back long standing American policy and reward one of America's fiercest enemies with $1.3 Billion in cold hard cash, and oh by the way, we will look the other way on your nuclear program and allow an additional $150 Billion to flow into your war chest," Carter added. "It almost seems too frightening to be true."

"Thankfully there are some in the Senate who want to stop these kinds of ransom payments from being made in the future.  Unfortunately, Senator Blumenthal's voice has been absent from this conversation," said Carter.

"Iran is the world's foremost state sponsor of terror who oppresses women, executes LGBTQ community members, calls America 'the Great Satan' and has in the last several weeks made efforts to threaten US Navy vessels," said Carter. "Iran is a constant reminder of Blumenthal's failure as a US Senator."

"Strongly worded letters and press conferences will not solve America's foreign policy problems," said Carter. "Voting to give Iran $150 billion, like Senator Blumenthal did, weakens America and our allies and puts lives in danger.  Where is the outrage?"
