Our Fund Drive has been extended til September 7th!
OBG's Seniors Need a Helping Paw!
Rocky came to OBG in August 2009 and suffers from Fanconi's Syndrome.

Exciting news! Our amazing donors have done it again! An additional $5,000 has been pledged to our Matching Fund Drive bringing our goal to $35,000. That means $70,000 for OBG's pups. Our drive total stands at $29,000 (THANK YOU!!) and we are now extending it one more week to Wednesday, September 7th to reach our new goal. Can you help us get there? Even just $10 will help us pay towards the monthly medical expenses of the 30 senior dogs in our care.

As many of you know, OBG was started in 1996 in large part to rescue older Cocker Spaniels that were dumped at shelters or worse, by the side of the road. At the twilight of their lives they had no one to love and care for them. While OBG rescues Cocker Spaniels of all ages, we have a very special place in our hearts for sweet seniors. Sadly, there continue to be more seniors needing homes than OBG can help, but we do our best thanks to your support.

Currently, OBG has 30 seniors in our care -- see most of them here (click on seniors tab) -- and many, if not all of them, will spend the rest of their lives with us. They are in loving foster forever homes, but most have medical issues requiring daily medication and frequent vet check ups. To date, these 30 pups have cost OBG $83,000. Yes, that's $83,000! Here are a few examples of the seniors and how their expenses add up quickly.
  • 11-year-old Rocky featured above has been with OBG the longest -- 7 years this month. He suffers from Fanconi's Syndrome, a kidney disease that requires a special diet, nutritional supplements and frequent medical tests. He is not available for adoption.
  • 11-year-old Bartles has Cushings Disease and requires meds costly $60 a month. To date, Bartles' expenses have been over $3,000. Bartles is available for adoption.
  • 12-year-old Toby has been with OBG nearly five years now and also suffers from Cushings Disease requiring daily medications. He is not available for adoption.
  • 11-year-old Sweet Missy of the Freedom 46 is blind and deaf and has had numerous medical issues from mammary tumors, to eyes and dental and earlier this year pancreatitis costly thousands of dollars. She is on a prescription diet and other meds now. Sweet Missy is available for adoption.
  • 12-year-old Ana who recently came to us from a local shelter after her owner died and the family lost their home. Medical tests revealed a tumor on her heart causing fluid build-up around her organs and nodules on her spleen. She will live out her days with her foster family with love and care. Her medical expenses are over $1500.
  • We also said farewell to two seniors recently -- Chuck who had been with us 6 years and suffered from Fanconi's Syndrome too and Olivia who had been with us 4 years and would have turned 16 later this year.
