Cast Your Vote for the Winners of Our "BAUHAUS in Your House" Photo Contest!

The DAAD jury sends a big thanks to all who participated in our ‪"BAUHAUS‬ in Your House" photo contest. Six finalists have been chosen, and now it's up to you to choose the ‪winning‬ photos! Let us know which photo best reflects Bauhaus to you, and check back at the end of June, when we will announce the winners. To cast your ‪vote‬, click the "Photo Contest" tab on our Facebook page or visit https://www.daad.org/bauhauscontest. Good luck to our finalists and happy voting!

Inspired by the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Bauhaus School in Dessau, DAAD North America's photo contest invited the public to examine their everyday environment for elements of Bauhaus, whether it be a building, an artwork, housewares, or anything in between. Each photo is accompanied by an explanation of how it represents Bauhaus to the entrant.

First prize: a round-trip airline ticket to Germany
Second prize: a GoPro action camera
Third prize: a one-year subscription to bauhaus – the magazine of the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation

DAAD Presents Positive Developments at Annual Press Conference

At DAAD’s annual press conference, President Margret Wintermantel and Secretary General Dr. Rüland presented encouraging figures. In 2015, DAAD funded more than 127,000 students and scientists (75,412 from Germany and 51,627 from the rest of the world) - an increase of five percent compared to 2014. Pres. Wintermantel linked the growing numbers not only to the positive reputation of German higher education, but also to wider recognition of the importance of studying and researching abroad as a driving force for innovation.

In 2015, 321,569 foreign students were enrolled at German universities, putting Germany among the five most popular host countries. DAAD noted particularly high numbers of applicants from Russia, the USA and Ukraine, and a strong interest in Master programs with a focus on developing countries. German students and researchers in turn applied most notably for funding to Western Europe and North America.

DAAD’s new “Leadership for Syria” program currently funds 200 young Syrians who have had to interrupt or postpone their studies due to the war. By studying at German universities, these scholarship holders are offered brighter perspectives for the future and are better equipped for the task of helping to shape the Syria of tomorrow.

Postdoctoral Researchers Networking Tour 2016

In fall 2016, DAAD is offering a networking tour to provide postdoctoral researchers with insight into the German ‪science‬ landscape and job opportunities. This year’s tour focuses on ‪‎molecular‬ ‪bioscience‬ (‪‎biochemistry‬, ‪‎biotechnology‬, ‪‎medicine‬ and related disciplines).

Tour participants will receive funding to cover:
- a diverse, hands-on program matching their goals and interests
- program-related costs in Germany (accommodation, domestic travel, most meals)
- a lump sum travel allowance if such costs are not covered by a third party. This will also be provided if the stay is extended by up to five working days in order to allow for additional professional networking.

Applications will be accepted until July 15 and the tour will take place from September 25 to October 1, 2016. More information on the Postdoctoral Researchers Networking Tour 2016 is available at www.daad.de/postdocnet.
