The Road Report - July 15, 2016

Did someone say summer vacation? Not here! We're busy busy - making sure our local roads are safe and support our growing and dynamic community.

Here's this week's Road Report . . .

Concrete being pumped into the pier columns
for the new bridge

CHECK THIS OFF THE LIST
To date, crews have completed the following:
  • The pier for the new, widened bridge being built over I-71 has been completed - pier footers, columns and caps have all been poured in the median.
  • Both abutment footers and beam seats are complete (for those of us without engineering degrees, that means the foundation is well on its way to completion).

UP NEXT
This week, crews will focus on the following:
  • Drainage work to install catch basins and pipes to help with effectively moving rainwater from the roadway is being done.

KEEP AN EYE ON
Some issues to be mindful of as work continues:
  • Additional nighttime work is ongoing on I-71, but the noise level should not be as intense as the recent pile driving work.
  • The 40-week closure on Socialville-Fosters Road at the bridge over I-71 continues through the end of the year, and the detour (Mason-Montgomery Road to Western Row Road to Columbia Road) remains in place during that time.
  •
Drilling for storm sewer and drainage structures

CHECK THIS OFF THE LIST
To date, crews have completed the following:
  • Site clearing

UP NEXT
This week, crews will focus on the following:
  • Utility work continues to relocate gas, electric, storm and phone systems.
  • We're moving dirt! Fill operations (removing dirt from areas that don't need it and placing it in areas that do) for the relocated Columbia Road are underway and will continue throughout the summer.
  • Work continues for the new storm sewer and drainage structures that will be installed in the area.

KEEP AN EYE ON
Some issues to be mindful of as work continues:
  • Water line work will require a nighttime closure on Western Row Road just east of the Northbound I-71 exit ramp where the road takes a 90-degree bend. The closure will happen over two nights - beginning on Thursday, July 21, at 10:00 p.m., and ending on Friday, July 22, at 5 a.m., and then again on Friday, July 22, at 11:00 p.m., until Saturday, July 23, at 5 a.m. A detour from Western Row Road to Columbia Road to Socialville-Fosters Road will be put in place and will be marked with signage.

Bright white new curbs in place on the
west side of the road
CHECK THIS OFF THE LIST
To date, crews have completed the following:
  • The curb work along the west side of Kings Island Drive has been completed.
UP NEXT
This week, crews will focus on the following:
  • Installation of the sidewalk ramps and grading for the bike path.
  • Electric work continues on the improved lighting along the new roadway.
  •
KEEP AN EYE ON
Some issues to be mindful of as work continues:
  • There are no full closures or detours in place related to this work; however, there are various lane closures and traffic impacts throughout the project area, primarily from Soak City Drive to the new entrance of Kings Island. If it's been a while since you've driven this road, the traffic pattern has likely changed, so please slow down, read the signs, and be mindful of other drivers as you drive through this area.

Paving work in progress on Irwin-Simpson

CHECK THIS OFF THE LIST
To date, crews have completed the following:
  • The large retaining walls on the north side of the road are now complete.
  • From Auburn Drive to Charleston View Drive, the dirt beneath the future roadway was compacted and stabilized with cement material.
  • The base course has been applied to the next section of roadway to be paved.

UP NEXT
This week, crews will focus on the following:
  • Crews are working on the concrete curb construction and sidewalk construction east of Auburn Drive.
KEEP AN EYE ON
Some issues to be mindful of as work continues:
  • Irwin-Simpson Road between Charleston Park and Butler-Warren Road is currently closed to through traffic, but local traffic and residents will have access to the area throughout construction. The road is expected to reopen in November of 2016.
  • The detour is Butler-Warren Road to Socialville-Fosters Road to Snider Road, and is marked with detour signage.
  • Butler-Warren Road will remain open but periodic lane closures may take place intermittently over the course of the project.
