Southern Biscuits with Peach Preserves.
Southern Biscuits with Peach Preserves.

Approach: Morning light on a farm house table. The angle and size of the light brings out the texture in the biscuits, puts highlights in the preserves and adds depth. Notice the transparency of the jar and the use of shadows to bring out the roundness of the items.

Pasta with Pesto and Pine Nuts.
pasta

Approach: Since pesto is a lighter uncooked sauce made with fresh basil, garlic, pine nuts, olive oil and typically parmesan cheese, I wanted a more lunch time feel. The kind of light you would experience sitting by a window in a trattoria in Italy. The stylist brought in the old world looking blue textured tin which we both agreed needed to be in the shot.

My challenge was to light the blue tin in such a way as to NOT overpower the pasta yet keep all the tone & texture. So, I decided the best way to simulate the light I wanted was to actually use window light coming into my studio. This is all natural light!

CHARCUTERIE: Pronunciation: shahr-KOO-tuhr-ee.
CHARCUTERIE_ Pronunciation_ shahr-KOO-tuhr-ee.

From the term cuiseur de chair, meaning "cooker of meat," which are sold in a delicatessen, also called a charcuterie. Love taking a table full of ingredients, well prepared by the stylist, and putting the "puzzle" together.

The flow of the shot is natural, easy and interesting always keeping the viewer engaged.

Black Forest Protein Shake.
Black Forest Protein Shake.

My approach was to use fresh, clean lighting & composition keeping the focus on a very delicious looking frosted glass.

A very healthy and natural look.
