Worship with us this Sunday!
Join us this Sunday for worship at 9:30am or 11:00am with Rabbi Jim Bennett sharing the message: Living our Sabbath Change! Scriptures are Jeremiah 2:4-13 and Psalm 81.

After worship services, stay for a luncheon with Mar Thoma and Shaare Emeth. Mar Thoma is bringing Indian dishes, Parkway is providing salads, and Shaare Emeth is contributing desserts.
It will be a special day of interfaith celebration.

Adult Education
Sundays | 9:30am & 11am | Heritage Room

This is an open invitation to Healthy Spirit, week 2. Susan Ulmer, a spiritual director, centers on increasing openness to the Spirit in our lives. One of the definitions of a miracle is a change in perspective (and I would add "an increase in openness"). Perhaps we will touch on that miracle through each other on August 28 during the 9:30 &/or 11:00 education hour and be filled with ways to notice, to openly receive what is already within and all around us...the Spirit! Adults and teens are welcome to participate in Healthy Spirit, week 2.

Into the Mystic is the Rev. John C. Dorhauer's weekly podcast on UCC.org.

St. Louis Metro Crop Hunger Walk
September 25 | Meet @church 12:30pm | Eden Seminary
Once again Parkway will recruit walkers and solicit donations for the Church World Service CROP Hunger Walk at Eden Seminary on September 25th. Our church goal this year is $2000.00. The Crop Hunger Walk raises funds for alleviating hunger around the world. With all the turmoil around the world right now, there is a huge need to feed millions of refugees. Church World Service is the avenue for churches to participate in this.
We are asking for members who are able to walk the one or three mile route through Webster Groves and secure financial sponsors who will donate in the walker's name. All walkers who raise $100 or more will receive a Crop t-shirt. Parkway will award its top fund raiser with a special gift and recognition.
Walkers register online at www.crophungerwalk.org. Find Parkway in the list and either register or donate. There is also a Facebook page at www.facebook.com/CropWalk2016. Or you can sign up as a walker or donor on the poster in the Gathering Space and we will contact you with the details.
CROP is the hunger fighting wing of Church World Service which is supported by many denominations including the United Church of Christ. The Walk is ecumenical, interfaith and community wide, 25% of the funds raised stay in St. Louis.

Small Group Discussion Gatherings:
Last spring the Tuesday Evening Discussion
group read  Beyond Resistance, a book by John Dorhauer, the General Minister and President of the United Church of Christ. As part of the Healthy Spirits/Healthy Relationships segment of the Sabbatical, we have set up small group discussions groups to share a meal and discuss questions raised by Dr Dorhauer. Examples of the questions are: what does the church mean to you?  How do you connect to it in spirit and actions? How can we help our church grow in mission to better serve each other and our neighbors? What's most important to you about Parkway?

Please sign up for one of these groups in the Gathering Space. You don't have to read the book but you may want to pick up one of the summary pamphlets called Our Mission is Business in the Gathering Space.

Please see Helen Race for any questions:  [email protected]   or call 314-401-4382.

Choir Call
If you enjoy singing, we would love to have you sing with us. The choir is a warm and welcoming group-we work hard, have fun, and enjoy making music together. Our rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-8:00pm, and we sing for the 9:30 worship service on Sundays, with a warm up at 8:45. Child care is provided on Wednesday evenings and before the service on Sundays. This fall our rehearsals begin on Wednesday, August 31, and we will sing for the 9:30 worship services beginning on Sunday, September 11. We very much need additional singers! If you would like to join us, please contact Barbara Raedeke at [email protected], or just come to the first rehearsal on August 31. You will be most welcome!

Inspiration
A person with  ubuntu  is open and available to others, affirming of others, does not feel threatened that others are able and good, for he or she has a proper self-assurance that comes from knowing that he or she belongs in a greater whole and is diminished when others are humiliated or diminished, when others are tortured or oppressed. ~ Desmond Tutu
