Tampa Bay Reporter: Grant Will Help Train Student Entrepreneurs at Gibbs, Lakewood High Schools
A series of workshops will be offered at
Gibbs and
Lakewood high schools for student entrepreneurs this school year.
The workshops are being offered thanks to a $25,000 AT&T contribution to the
Pinellas Education Foundation.The check was presented to the foundation at a ceremony last week.
"At the Olympics right now is Gibbs High's own Trayvon Bromell. My hope is that Gibbs High is going to be the home of the next Steve Jobs or the next Bill Gates with this entrepreneurship program," At&T's Ed Narain said.

At 1:40 p.m. Monday, St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman tweeted, "Attention, St. Pete foodies! Stand by for some really delicious, big news." His 9,679 followers didn't have to wait long.
Accompanying a picture of the instantly recognizable Ray Lampe, aka Dr. BBQ, Kriseman tweeted, "Got 'em! Welcome to St. Pete & the Edge District and ... #SunShinesHere."

SPB Anne Lindberg: Education, collaboration are key tactics in Pinellas' war on Zika
As officials investigate the first non-travel-related case of Zika in Pinellas, they're stepping up their efforts in educating residents and enlisting their help to eradicate the mosquito that carries the virus.
Education is a message St. Petersburg is taking seriously. Mayor Rick Kriseman on Tuesday designated Dean Adamides, the division chief of emergency management in the St. Petersburg Fire Rescue Department, to oversee the city's response to the Zika threat.

Tampa Bay Times: Local leaders tackle mosquitoes, call for more information as state investigates Pinellas Zika case
It may be up to two weeks before health officials know if a Pinellas resident who appears to have contracted Zika locally is an isolated case or the first sign that mosquitoes here are spreading the virus.
But the emergence of a potential mosquito-borne case has community leaders on both sides of Tampa Bay eager to reduce mosquito populations and has prompted renewed calls for health officials to reveal where the infection took place.

Tampa Bay Business Journal: Uber regulations could be coming to St. Pete
Transportation network companies, most famously
Uber and Lyft, get ticketed on a regular basis in Hillsborough County but have successfully flown under the radar across the Bay in Pinellas. That's because municipalities there have chosen not to enforce regulations or lack any regulation at all.
That could soon change in St. Petersburg - Pinellas County's biggest city.

The Weekly Challenger: Clergy, community and police agree, Not My Son!
The pastor of Faith Church, Rev. J.C. Pritchett II, led a group of community residents and police officers from the Enoch Davis Center through the Campbell Park neighborhood to spread the Not My Son pledge message after three recent homicides of African-American men within the last three weeks.
"I'm here canvassing the neighborhood near Enoch Davis for Not My Son, which is parent and student pledges to help our students and community stay safe away from gun violence," said Karen Davis-Pritchett, the wife of Rev. Pritchett.

Tampa Bay Business Journal: St. Pete expects more than $3M in Southside projects for a $468,000 investment
The city of St. Petersburg is talking up its Southside Community Redevelopment Area grants, awarded earlier this month, in a new video.
In the video,
Nikki Capehart, the city's Urban Affairs director, boasts the estimated $3.5 million in total project costs that could result from an influx in public grant money - and that means the city is getting strong return on investment.
