MALDEN CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL
BLUE & GOLD BULLETIN   -   JUNE 17, 2016

  From the Principal's Desk

Br. Thomas Puccio CFX
It is with a sense of satisfaction and blessing that I end the 2015-16 school year. I hope that many others share the feeling! Through this past month we have enjoyed together the celebration of the wonderful gifts of our Malden Catholic community: in the accomplishments of the Class of 2016 at their Awards Banquet; in prayer and companionship at our Baccalaureate Mass and Reception; in joyful sending forth at our Commencement; in praising the talents and achievements of our Underclassmen at their Awards Convocation; and in the excitement of athletic tournament play. We know that our young men, our faculty and staff, and each of you have worked hard to make this a successful year. Thanks, as always, for your partnership!

Each year brings changes, and both through the retirement of five dedicated educators who have reached the end of distinguished careers and through decisions of others to continue their careers elsewhere, we will be saying farewell to several of our faculty: retirees Mr. Edward Arsnow (Mathematics), Dr. David Chuckran (Science), Mr. Dennis Gleason (Engineering/Math), Mr. Alan Kaufman (Science), Mr. Anthony McDowell (Science/Math); and Mrs. MariCarmen Constable (Technology), Mr. Peter Francini (School Counseling), Ms. Cindy Jacobs (School Counseling), Mr. Craig Schneider (Science), and Ms. Taylor Stevenson (Library Assistant). We thank them for their service and wish them every future success and happiness. We also thank our Administrative Fellow from the Boston College Lynch Leadership Academy Mr. Dan Price, who assisted us through the year and who now will lead the newly formed Lower School Program for Lowell Catholic.

I am also most appreciative of the volunteer services of all the members of our Malden Catholic Lancers Association parents club, who have offered support and hospitality throughout our community. In particular I thank officers Mrs. Liz Rappa (President), Mrs. Patty Zaccardo (Vice President), Mrs. Donez Tavilla (Treasurer), Mrs. Noreen McKenna (Recording Secretary), and Mrs. Deb Walsh (Corresponding Secretary). On behalf of our Athletic Department, too, I offer thanks to all those parents who were loyal fans and whose special care and support helped to build team-and-community spirit.

Now just a week since our young men wrapped up exams, parts of the building already have a "construction-site" feel, as a whole corridor of lockers - original to the building -- are being removed, to be replaced by sparkling blue-and-gold ones; and the final phase of fire-sprinkling installation is under way in Br. Gilbert Center and the Administrative offices. For four of the last six summers our administrators and staff have had to move out and re-locate for all or part of the summer months - not a fun thing to do, but in my case, at least, the one thing that forces me to do some office cleaning and throw things out! Before we move, though, report cards will be e-mailed, so by the time families of our MC underclassmen see this Bulletin, they should have received report cards.  Assistant Principal Mr. Bucchino will follow-up with make-up credit information for students where there may be course failure for the year.

Enjoy the summer days ahead! Over the next few weeks we will be working on schedules for the 2016-2017 school year. They will be e-mailed by July 19. I wish you and your family blessings through the summer months!

Brother Tom Puccio, C.F.X.

Two Weeks Left!

Thank You! As the fiscal year comes to a close, we are grateful to the many alumni, parents, grandparents, Girls Catholic alumnae, friends and more who chose to invest in The Fund for Malden Catholic.

By making MC a philanthropic priority, you have provided funds that are critical to daily operations and help the school maintain its competitive edge. Fund for Malden Catholic gifts are among the most important and valuable to MC because they can be used where the need is greatest, including offering much-needed financial aid to worthy young men in our community. Your gift likely made the difference to a family who otherwise could not have afforded to send a student to MC!

If you have not made your gift yet, there is still time! Please click here to invest in Malden Catholic before June 30th. Each gift, large or small, can really make a difference.
