Collective Bargaining Signed 

Collective Agreement signed between Municipality and CUPE Local 919
Municipality of the County of Cumberland and CUPE Local 919 staff signed a collective bargaining agreement on August 3, 2016. Throughout the negotiation process there remained a respective, collaborative, and team based approach to decision-making.
The Municipality of the County of Cumberland would like to recognize the achievements of all of those involved in the negotiation process! They are as followed (L-R):

Springhill Natural Playground Grand Opening
September 23, Lions Park, Springhill
Construction on the Natural Playground is now complete, however minor adjustments will be made throughout the year. 

A Grand Opening is planned for Friday. September 23 (time still to be confirmed). This event will involve all levels of governments, the local schools, and all others who supported the project from design through build.

Municipal Drone Assisting with Planning and Assessing Emergency Management
New drone helps with Emergency Management
The Municipality purchased a drone in July that will assist with the planning and assessing of emergency management in the County. Mike Johnson, Regional Emergency Management Coordinator with the Municipality, highlights the importance of capturing photos and videos of an emergency situation in real time. The drone gives the Municipality a much better ability to assess the situation, and then go into planning stages using that information.

Pugwash Water Update
Construction Update - August 19, 2016
Work continues on the Pugwash Water Supply System resulting in various road closures in the Village of Pugwash. The Municipality of the County of Cumberland, the Village of Pugwash, WSP Engineering and Dexter Construction have provided a construction update of the work being undertaken in the weeks ahead.

2016 Property Tax Rebate for Seniors
Program designed to help eligible seniors remain in their home
This program, administered by Service Nova Scotia on behalf of the Department of Community Services, is designed to help eligible seniors remain in their homes by providing them with an annual rebate on their municipal property taxes.

The program provides eligible homeowners with a 50% rebate of the actual residential municipal property taxes paid the previous year, up to a maximum of $800.00 per year. The rebate is always based on the property taxes paid in the previous year.
