Ontario looking 'very closely' at B.C. tax aimed at foreign homebuyers

Ontario's finance minister says he will be looking "very closely" at British Columbia's tax aimed at foreign homebuyers as he looks for ways to address eroding affordability in Toronto's housing market.

Charles Sousa says he welcomes the 15 per cent tax that the B.C. government will charge foreign nationals looking to snap up homes in Vancouver's scorching real estate market.

What a $1 million condo is like in Toronto vs other cities

How does a $1 million condo in Toronto stack up against other cities? You might be surprised at how competitive units are in this price range across the globe. Adjusted for the Canadian dollar, a million bucks certainly goes a bit further in Toronto than it does in New York and London, but the difference is less radical than you might think.

Toronto's best new patios with great late-night menus

At Grant van Gameren's new Mexican hot spot in the market (pictured above), the main attraction is mescal-lots and lots of mescal-which comes in folksy clay copipas. Platters of spicy, salty snacks (morita-dusted popcorn, puffy house-made Fritos, a crunchy cricket-peanut mix) help soak up the hooch. The lantern-lit patio facing Kensington Avenue just about doubles the teeny bar's capacity-and the people-watching is exceptional.
