VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
The Kosher Meals on Wheels Program (KMOW) is in need of volunteers who are available to package home delivered meals during the week. KMOW provides prepared kosher meals to seniors who are no longer driving and may have limitations with meal preparation. Meals are delivered on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Volunteers are trained to assemble meals at The Jewish Home.
Hours can be flexible according to your schedule:
either in the afternoons the day before deliveries,
or early morning on the day that meals are delivered.
If you would be interested in helping this very vital program to older adults in the community, please contact Lori Weitzman at 717-233-1681.

CARE MANAGEMENT VS. PERSONAL CARE...
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?
A message from
SeniorLinks Director Marjorie Koch  about Geriatric Care Management

The aging of America has become a very relevant topic. Everyone from politicians to the medical community, adult children to seniors themselves are talking about the subject. We are bombarded with information, about the challenges, complications and solutions to helping this growing population age safely and well, from many directions. It can get overwhelming and complicated!

One of the areas of care that is easily misunderstood is the difference between Geriatric Care Management and personal care services. To learn more, click here.

GREAT NEWS

The Haverim Society offers a grant every year where funds are to be distributed to one organization or divided between multiple organizations, at the discretion of the voting members. The Fund is through the Jewish Community Foundation of Central Pennsylvania and, in partnership with the Jewish Federation of Greater Harrisburg; the Fund distributes grants annually as a way to support the local Jewish community. This year, The Haverim Society was able to allocate funds to three recipients, Jewish Family Service, Silver Academy, and Kesher Israel. Jewish Family Service received $500.

The grant will enable Jewish Family Service to give a little extra support to families and individuals who are struggling to get by on a day-to-day basis. JFS is proud to support people of all backgrounds as they confront life's ups and downs.  Grants like this one from Haverim, demonstrates that we can work together to fulfill our commitment to tikkun olam, repairing the world.

The Harrisburg Haverim Society is made up of current and former Harrisburg residents who work to support the local Harrisburg Jewish Community and who donated to the 2016 Annual Campaign.  Members of the Haverim Society consider their group "A Society for our friends who live afar but remain close at heart."

"We are very appreciative of the confidence The Foundation has shown in us and our important work in the community," Barry Stein, JFS Executive Director remarked.
