Jersey Cares

The Volunteer Voice

Vol 5, Issue 9                           Be the change. Volunteer.                    September 2016

Store signs, commercials, even Google alerts all remind us that summer is winding up. Parents are rushing to the back-to-school sales. Families are getting together for a final weekend getaway. The temperature is starting to fall. You know you want to make the most of these last moments of summer, so do that, and volunteer with Jersey Cares!

How great would it be to hang out outdoors, planting and maintaining the beautiful gardens of Andover with Plant it Forward in Andover? How about serving the hungry and helping them choose food items from a mobile pantry with Mobile Meals in Paterson? The experiences are endless and rewarding, and these are the moments you will remember after summer has come to an end!
September 11th
September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance

As part of the national movement to preserve September 11th as a day of service and remembrance, Jersey Cares needs 800 volunteers between September 9th and 10th. On this particularly momentous 15th anniversary, volunteers will come together to make our communities stronger on a day that was intended to tear them apart.  LEARN MORE .

Sharon Levy

Sharon Levy's journey with Jersey Cares began in June of 2016. Within one week she learned about the leadership opportunities and knew she wanted to get more involved. Sharon chose to be a Project Coordinator because "volunteering is about building relationships, networking, and meeting people."  To her, these are the key components to being a successful volunteer. When she isn't busy running her company, Sharon can be found volunteering all around New Jersey.  READ MORE

More children than ever before will be prepared to learn this year, armed with a full backpack of school supplies from our incredibly generous School Supply Drive donors. We have already given close to 1,000 children a backpack stuffed with notebooks, pens, pencils, calculators, scissors, glue and other essentials to help them make the most of their time in school, and we expect to distribute at least 300 more backpacks. 29 corporate partners contributed significantly to the results.  Some companies such as AXA, Lowenstein Sandler and PwC hosted collection sites in their offices.  Other partners like MetLife, Vornado and Kicks-USA held corporate service projects onsite to pack backpacks full of supplies.  And our newest partner, Datapipe, hosted an online drive that garnered 157 full backpacks.

Don't miss your opportunity to get involved in these great team-building events for a cause!  Next up, the Halloween Costume Drive. And before you know it, Coat Drive Season will be here.  If you want to get involved, please get in touch with Jennifer at [email protected] or 973-533-1993, or register online for the Halloween Costume Drive and/or Jersey Cares Coat Drive.
