Research takes time and money and will not happen without support of the doctors who benefit from our efforts. Please consider donating to SOT Research so we can protect your future, continue to maintain an active research program, and offer you as many services as possible. A donation of as little as one patient visit a month could go far to helping us build a future for SOT Research. Please contact Dr. Blum at [email protected] to find out how to donate.

2016 SOT Research Conference Introduction

 SOT Research Conferences 2009-16

Since 2009 the Annual SOT Research Conferences looks to offer a venue for research papers; specifically those, which investigate sacro occipital technique, dental chiropractic co-treatment, cranial techniques, viscerosomatic/somatovisceral, reflex techniques, and new ground-breaking creative ways of helping humanity without necessarily the use of drugs or surgical intervention. The conference proceedings from each annual SOT research conference will be shared with the chiropractic profession, for review, dissemination, and in-depth study.

Review this introduction to the conference which reviews SOTO-USA's Research efforts for 2015-2016.

Landmark ACC-RAC, WFC, NCLA, ACA Research Conference

 March 15-18, 2017

ACC RAC 2017

I am contacting you to offer you help and implore that you consider submitting an SOT related research presentation to this year's ACC RAC Conference in Washington DC, March 15-18, 2017.

While the ACC RAC Conferences are a huge opportunity to share SOT Research with the chiropractic research, academic, and college administrative community this one coming up will be a landmark joint conference that for the first time ever will simultaneously include the WFC Biennial Congress and National Chiropractic Leadership Conference (NCLC) with the whole conference hosted by the American Chiropractic Association.

The ACC RAC Conferences have recently had close to 500 in attendance, this upcoming one will have well over 1000 and those in attendance are the most important policy makers for the field of chiropractic. It would behoove anyone wanting to protect and defend the future of doctors practicing SOT to share their research and have a voice in this arena.

This will be a once in a lifetime opportunity and if you have been involved with SOT Research at the SOT Research Conferences and you can submit your work to the conference on your own or you might want to seek some assistance in the process from me. I have had many papers successfully accepted at the ACC RAC and WFC conference so I am familiar with the parameters. Please let me help you, if you are interest, in sharing a 195 word submission abstract if you need assistance. Click here to submit your abstract.

If you do not feel that you would like to submit an abstract for this conference, then please consider attending the conference and having a voice at the table with those making decisions for our future. Deadline for submissions is September 15, 2016.

Sincerely,

Charles L. Blum, DC

Interdisciplinary Health Care and SOT

A way for the future of conservative health care

For some chiropractors the concept of an integrative healthcare practice is the "way of the future." For instance I currently work often with dentists co-managing TMJ cases [1-3] and with physiatrists (MD/DO) co-treating spinal and extremity issues with prolotherapy, ozone, PRP, epidural, and even homeopathic injections.

One interesting case involved a patient getting a PRP injection, guided with ultrasound, into his shoulder. When viewing the tissues with ultrasound the MD noted the biceps tendon was medially displaced and was somewhat dismayed since it appears it might undermine the effectiveness of the injection. I said that I could move it laterally into its groove and she looked at me with wide eyes and said, "Please try." I did it in about 30 seconds we did a follow up ultrasound and saw the tendon was in its groove and then she did the PRP shot. I would think every office and surgical unit would want to have a chiropractor present to optimize injection and surgical outcomes when appropriate.

As a sacro occipital technique practitioner I have a very multidisciplinary practice since viscerosomatic and somatovisceral aspects of health can be a part of my patients' presentations. Theoretically it would seem that we could easily have integrative practice teams such as with cardiologists (e.g., cervicothoracic angina) [4], gastrointestinal (e.g., hiatal hernia and gastroesophageal reflux) [5,6], and obstetrics/gynecologist (e.g., pregnancy and premenstrual tension) [7,8].
