MAAG, in conjunction with the Delta Human Resource Agency and the Shelby County Housing Department, are currently helping low income elderly homeowners through the Emergency Repair Program. This program, which is funded by the Tennessee Housing Development Agency, provides grants to low income, elderly homeowners who are 60 years or older to correct, repair, or replace an essential system and/or a critical structural problem. The purpose of the program is to provide essential repairs to make the home livable. To apply or for more information contact Paul Morris.

Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) - Recycling and Waste Reduction Grants
The Division of Solid Waste Management is soliciting applications for used oil collection equipment grants. This competitive grant offering is to assist local governments and privately owned facilities to improve and expand used oil infrastructure for the collection of used oil from Do-It-Yourselfers. CDBG Façade Improvement Applications Released
Applications were released for the next round of Façade Improvement Grants. These grants of up to $100,000 are available for commercial façade improvements in downtown business districts in Main Street certified communities and communities that have completed the Tennessee Downtowns program and have an active design committee. Lauderdale County Awarded TNECD Tourism Enhancement Grant
Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam and Economic and Community Development Commissioner Randy Boyd announced in July that 29 communities will receive over $999,000 in Tourism Enhancement Grants to assist communities with tourism infrastructure assets. Lauderdale County will receive $20,000 to develop a Tourism Comprehensive Plan. Lauderdale County is one of 29 communities out of 61 applicants to receive funding from the Tourism Enhancement Grant.

Governor's Conference on Economic and Community Development Giveaways
The Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (ECD) will be hosting their annual Governor's Conference on Economic and Community Development in Nashville, TN, on October 27 and 28, 2016 (http://govcon.tnecd.com/).
The conference plans to provide multiple giveaways and prizes.Last year, several attractions generously donated a tourism package for their use (from gift baskets to vouchers and attractions tickets).

Department of Tourist Development and publisher Miles are expanding the events listings in the 2017 Tennessee Vacation Guide. Additional pages have been added and there will now be an event section for all nine travel regions! So now is the time to submit your event/festival information for consideration.
Deadline to receive submissions and images is August 31st.
Remember, all photos must be HIGH RESOULTION and of good quality. Photos should reflect the event and/or festival.

Dr. Thomas H. Price House has been placed in the National and Tennessee Registers of Historic Places by the National Park Service of the United States Department of the
Interior
The Dr. Thomas H. Price House located at 620 North Main Street in Covington, TN has been placed in the National and Tennessee Registers of Historic Places by the National Park Service of the United States Department of the Interior on June 13, 2016. Dr. Thomas H. Price (1873-1962) was the last African American local physician to reside in Covington until 1962. He was born on February 14, 1873 on a farm in Fayette County, received a Bachelor of Science from Lane College in Jackson, TN and graduated from Meharrey Medical College in Nashville in 1902. He was a member and long-time officer of the Tri-County Medical, Dental, and Pharmaceutical Association, which was composed of African-Americans in the medical profession from Tipton, Lauderdale, and Haywood counties. He was also a member of the National Medical Association (NMA), the largest and oldest medical organization representing African-Americans in the medical profession in the United States.
