Get your bike inspected!

Before BikeMaine, we encourage you to have your bike inspected with a local bike shop. This will reduce the chances of having mechanical problems along the route.

If you do have a problem with your bike during BikeMaine, there will be on route support provided by Founding Sponsor L.L.Bean mechanics.

In the Village support will be provided by Freeman's Bicycle Service.

A note from Freeman's mechanics Josh and Marc:

Freeman's will be providing experienced mechanical bike support while supplying essential replacement parts your bike may need during your weeklong BikeMaine Bold Coast Tour. We are looking forward to doing our best possible service so that you never miss a mile of Maine's Downeast.

There are only a few mechanical failures we are concerned most about while away from the convenience of our shop and or local shops. Fortunately, it is rare that we cannot muster a solution to a problems, but sometimes things are humanly impossible to fix. With this in mind, schedule a Professional Bike Tune-up and have your mechanic inspect all including, clean and re-grease all Cable Pinch Bolts, Saddle Rail Clamp and Bolts and the Seatpost Collar Bolts and replace if necessary. If your shop has or can order you bikes specific Rear Derailleur Hanger, buy one as a spare. Plus, if you have any nontraditional Wheel Spokes that are integrated to the manufacturers Hub and Rims, it never hurts to have those on hand for us to install, if need be.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email or call Josh and Marc. We are happy to help with your preparation!

Dear Friend of BikeMaine,

BikeMaine starts next month. After months of planning we are in the home stretch!

Last week the BikeMaine team made final visits to each of our host communities. I think you are REALLY going to enjoy what our host communities have to offer. In our final newsletter (coming out in early September), we'll have a complete listing of the various activities that we'll have on tap.

As always, if you can't find answers to your questions or would like additional information please, don't hesitate to give me a call or send me an e-mail. See you soon!

Our host communities are working on putting together a terrific lineup of activities for riders each afternoon--there will be opportunities to learn about the local history and arts, and to interact with community members. We'll provide a detailed list of these activities in our final newsletter coming out at the end of the month.

After you've had a  chance to participate in some afternoon activities and enjoyed a delicious dinner, we'll share some quick announcements and start our evening entertainment.

Here's the the evening entertainment schedule that we'll be offering in or near the BikeMaine Village:

BikeMaine and Bold Coast Coffee Launch Hot & Cold Partnership

The Bicycle Coalition of Maine and Bold Coast Coffee have teamed up for a unique initiative designed to promote BikeMaine 2016, support the non-profit's mission, and to heighten awareness of Downeast Maine's Bold Coast region.

The program kicks off with the launch of a signature coffee, roasted and blended especially for cyclists and other sport enthusiasts. Fifty cents from every bag sold will go directly to the Bicycle Coalition of Maine, and all of the Bold Coast Coffee varieties will have a "BikeMaine Official Coffee" sticker affixed to the package to call attention to the event, as well as the organization.

Additionally, the specially hand-crafted brew will be served exclusively during BikeMaine 2016.

Two Opportunities For A
Two-nation Vacation

Campobello Island, located in New Brunswick, Canada, is home to  Roosevelt Campobello International Park,  which includes Eleanor and Franklin Roosevelt's Summer Cottage and the Visitor's Centre, and is accessible via the FDR Memorial Bridge from Lubec, Maine. There is no admission fee for the park.  Read more about Campobello Island.

Riders will have two opportunities to explore Campobello Island. On the rest day,  Wednesday, September 14, you can arrange to take a 20-minute boat ride, with your bike, from Eastport to Lubec, to access the FDR Memorial Bridge. Boat transportation between Eastport and Lubec is offered on  September 14th by  Eastport Windjammers. A 42-passenger boat will leave Eastport for Lubec at  9:00 and 11:00 a.m. The return boat will leave Lubec for Eastport at  11:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. If needed, a second return boat will be added at  5:30 p.m. Cost is $25 round trip.

To reserve a seat on the boat to Lubec on Wednesday, September 14th, please contact Eastport Windjammers at (207) 853-2500. Space is limited, so we recommend making reservations before the start of BikeMaine.
From the dock in Lubec, you can ride the half mile to the FDR Memorial Bridge, through Canadian Customs (a valid passport is required), and onto Campobello Island.

The second for riders to visit the island is on Thursday, September 15. Riders can bike the half mile from the BikeMaine Village in Lubec onto Campobello Island (again, a valid passport is required)
