Highlands Ranch history takes the spotlight in new book

Local historian David Johnston recounts the history of Highlands Ranch in his newly released book Images of America Highlands Ranch. The book is part of the Images of America series published by Arcadia Publishing.

Johnston uses pictures to tell the story of Highlands Ranch, beginning in the early 1880s, to today's thriving community of 96,000 people.

The book can be purchased at the Mansion, any of the four recreation centers in Highlands Ranch, Tattered Cover, or checked out at the James H. LaRue Library.   
Fall events at the Mansion

Highlands Ranch Days - Sept. 8 - 10
Learn about the history and heritage of Highlands Ranch at Highlands Ranch Days at the Mansion. The event is open to the public and runs Thursday through Saturday. Parking is available at Mountain Vista High School. Shuttles will run from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day. Tickets will be sold at the gate.

Big Band Dance Night - Sept. 16
Enjoy an evening of big band music and dancing hosted by the Highlands Ranch Cultural Affairs Association and the Highlands Ranch Mansion. Doors open at 6 p.m., dancing begins at 6:30 p.m. Purchase tickets here.

The Last Stop - Oct. 31
Make the Mansion your last stop on Halloween night. Come to the Mansion from 7 to 9 p.m. for trick-or-treating, live music and adult beverages. More information about this family-friendly event will be released as the date approaches.
Docent spotlight: Paul Chamberlain

Paul Chamberlain is a volunteer at the Highlands Ranch Mansion. He has been volunteering since 2013 assisting with Highlands Ranch Days, decorating the Mansion during the holidays, and helping with whatever is needed.

This February Paul started volunteering as a greeter. This is a new volunteer position at the Mansion and he has thoroughly enjoyed it. "It's as much fun as being a docent. You get to talk to everyone who comes through the door and get them started on a tour if there are no docents available."

Paul's favorite room at the Mansion is the living room. He enjoys the openness of the room and especially likes the fireplace."... but the Mansion itself is fabulous," he adds.

When he is not at the Mansion, Paul and his wife Sandy, also a volunteer, enjoy traveling in their RV. They consider themselves full-time RVers. They recently traveled to Green Mountain Falls and their next trip will take them to Estes Park.
The Mansion is full of history

The first owner of the Highlands Ranch Mansion was a man named Samuel Allen Long. He had many different vocations in his lifetime and once sat on the board of directors for the B&O Railroad, which is familiar to fans of the Monopoly board game.

Rent the Mansion for your private event or tour

Located in central Highlands Ranch, the Mansion is open to the public for community and private events, business meetings, tours and cultural programs. This elegant western estate is the perfect place to host weddings, receptions, reunions, anniversaries and other life celebrations, business meetings and retreats.

Historic tours and open hours
Guided tours of the Mansion include a 35-minute tour of the first floor or a tour of the first and second floors, lasting approximately one hour.

Self-guided tours are also welcome. Visitors can follow the tour boards in each room to learn more about the history of the home.

Group tours can be arranged for groups of 10 or more and for youth and student groups.
