KidsCare Enrollment OPEN
 
KidsCare will finally be available as a health coverage choice for working families. As of July 26, families across Arizona who earn too much to qualify for the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS), and are not able to afford the private health insurance, are able to apply for KidsCare at low- or no-cost coverage.
 
Families can apply here or for free, professional help families can schedule an appointment by calling (800) 377-3536 or visiting www.CoverAZ.org/connector.
 
The earliest coverage begins on September 1

Could I have ADHD? Finding an Answer to ADHD as an Adult: This new online resource explains how attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) affects adults, including signs and symptoms, how it is diagnosed, and treatments options. 


 

Coping With Familial Mental Illness in Stressful Times: Former NIMH Deputy Director and Scientific Director, Dr. Richard Nakamura, discusses in a video interview how his family successfully coped with discrimination compounded by bipolar disorder during trying times for Japanese Americans.

 

 
CMS Announces Mailbox for Medicaid Mental Health Parity Rule Questions

On July 21, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced the availability of a mailbox dedicated to collecting questions from states, providers, and other stakeholders around implementation of the final Medicaid mental health parity rule. Submitted questions will help inform the types of technical assistance resources CMS will make available beginning fall of this year.

NEW NIMH Director Announced
 
Last week, NIH Director Francis Collins, M.D., Ph.D., announced the selection of Joshua A. Gordon, M.D., Ph.D., as the Director of the National Institute of Mental Health.   Understanding Some of HIPAA's Permitted Uses and Disclosures

 The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC) and the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) have worked collaboratively to develop a series of topical fact sheets on HIPAA Permitted Uses and Disclosures that provide examples of when PHI can be exchanged under HIPAA without first requiring a specific authorization from the patient, so long as other protections or conditions are met. The AZ Behavioral Health Corporation is still accepting applications for the Eric Gilbertson Advocacy Institute for Behavioral Health.  In the links below there is a flyer announcing the dates and the application for interested participants. Applications are due August 29th.
  
This is a series of 6  Saturday sessions in September, October, November & December that equips individuals to better understand the public behavioral health system in AZ.

Note: There is a $10 application fee, and for those accepted into the class, a $50 program fee.

The Mental Health Coalition Verde Valley is hosting the Mental Health Summit of 2016 titled "Latest Truths and Treatment".
It will be held on Friday, August 26th from 8:30 - 3:30 at Cliff Castle Casino.

  Caregiver Symposium
 
Duet, a non-profit interfaith organization, is offering a Caregiver Symposium: "How to Find Hope While Coping with Stress and Grief" on October 6 at Church of the Beatitudes, 555 W. Glendale Ave., Phoenix.
 
Renowned researcher, educator and psychologist Dr. Pauline Boss will share proven techniques to help caregivers deal with losses and how to reclaim hope amidst grief. Her session for family caregivers will take place from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (Includes lunch) and her session for professionals and students will be from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
