Greetings!

Well, here is part two of the Six Dimensions that we began last month.  If you missed part one, just go to my website www.dabalmft.com and click on newsletters for the back issues.  As a reminder, the book is called 10 Simple Solutions to Adult ADD: How to Overcome Chronic Distraction & Accomplish Your Goals by Stephanie Moulton Sarkis, Ph.D, New Harbinger Publications. You can purchase the book through my website by going to the Recommended Reading page and clicking on the book. Again, don't be fooled by the title, as there are tips in this book for almost everyone who reads it.

In part one I covered Physical, Emotional and Spiritual Dimensions.  In this piece below we will discuss the Social, Occupational and Intellectual dimensions.

Enjoy the information below and as always, please pass it on to anyone you believe may benefit from its content.

Sincerely,

From The Positive Perspective.......

Dimension #4:Social

This dimension includes taking a look at your ability to interact with a variety of people and how to feel comfortable in new and unknown situations.  Learning how to read non-verbal clues of individuals as well as being attentive to the verbal conversation can help you to feel as though you are in better control of your actions.  Effective communication and the ability to develop proper levels of friendships can increase your comfort level as well.  Have you ever been in the situation where you have just been introduced to someone and you forgot their name?  There are several tips in the book on how to overcome this awkwardness, including admitting to the person that their first name escapes you.  They will most likely laugh, as they have forgotten your first name as well.  You can also simply repeat their name when they are introduced to you, "John, so nice to meet you," as you shake their hand.

This dimension also includes learning how to make a good first impression.  Tips such as knowing as much as possible about the situation you are about to enter so you are prepared.  Would you dress the same for a corporate function as you would for a backyard picnic?  Who else will be attending?  Approximately how long with the event be?  Knowing this information can help you to reduce the unknowns, thus making you feel more prepared for the event.

Dimension #5:Occupational

This dimension includes looking at your current job and identifying the pros and cons of that job from your perspective.  Decide if you enjoy your job and if it fits with your values and believe it or not your sleep cycle.  Decide if it follows at all the career path that you envision for yourself.  If it does not, there are many tips in the book for helping to make your current job be more fulfilling for you until such time as you can make adjustments. A large part of this area also includes being open to the possibility and taking advantage of opportunities to learn new skills or meet new people who may say just that one thing that could change your life forever.  That can actually happen.

Dimension #6:Intellectual

This dimension includes, among other things, being able to follow current events so as to join in conversations with others at your job or in a social setting. Being aware of such things can allow you to engage more with others and take part in life, not just watch others participate.  Similar to what is mentioned in the occupational area, being ready to experience new things intellectually and staying open to increasing your intellectual knowledge on a regular basis can allow you to build your confidence.  The ability to use critical thinking skills and problem solving capabilities while observing your environment can help you to plan strategies for what will come up next in your day.  This also adds to rising confidence levels.  As you become accustomed to doing this, you can become more relaxed in new environments and in your daily routine overall.

I hope you have enjoyed exploring these Six Dimensions of Wellness with me.  I have enjoyed sharing this knowledge with you.

Thank you for showing an interest in this and, as always, thank you for looking at this topic.....From The Positive Perspective.

Stay well.
