THE IMPORTANCE OF SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Sheri Dougherty
 Dr. Sherilyne Dougherty, CEO

The August issue of DAI Solutions Advisor is devoted to the importance of corporate social responsibility for the health of our communities, our organizations and our employees. Serving others benefits the recipients and givers in a multitude of ways. Research has shown there is a strong connection between an organization's commitment to service and social responsibility and the happiness, productivity and engagement of its employees.

At DAI Solutions, employees have a number of opportunities to serve and each receives annual paid time off to pursue a cause they are passionate about. My own recent volunteer pursuits include working with Selah Freedom, a national organization that exists to end sex trafficking and bring freedom to the exploited, providing education and training throughout the U.S., as well as teen prevention, outreach and safe housing in the Midwest and Southeast.

In early June, a group of us  helped decorate Selah Freedom's new offices in Sarasota, Fla., to make the space more functional and welcoming to clients who are supported by the organization. I also participated with Selah Freedom leaders in Margin Mission Ignition 2016, an initiative of the Patterson Foundation to boost nonprofit entrepreneurial capacity, revenue and mission impact.

Finally, I have had the honor to attend the vision casting meeting with producer  David Shapiro of Semkhor Productions, who is working with Dylan McDermott and a team of filmmakers connected to Ringling College of Art and Design, and the human trafficking experts at Selah Freedom on the documentary, "Sugar," a fictional portrayal of a young runaway girl who ends up in South Florida while trying to make her way to safety.

We are committed to serving others and hope this issue of DAI Solutions Advisor inspires you to continue to serve.

Thank you for supporting the DAI Solutions Advisor.
SERVING OTHERS REAPS REWARDS

An organization with a commitment to serving its community helps the recipients of that service and benefits its employees through increased engagement, higher retention rates and stronger community relationships.

Creating a culture of social responsibility allows employees to make a difference while earning a paycheck, gives employees a shared sense of purpose while promoting team building, and results in employee pride in their organization. Forbes magazine has reported that companies who encourage their employees to volunteer have higher retention rates and their employees are happier at work.

DAI SOLUTIONS PROVIDES MULTIPLE SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES TO EMPLOYEES

Providing avenues for employees to give back - whether as a team or individually - solidifies your company's commitment to corporate social responsibility and your interest in making sure employees have sufficient service opportunities to select from.

At DAI Solutions, employees receive 16 hours of time annually that they may use to provide service to an organization of their choice, but identifying nonprofit or charitable organizations that will be a good fit both cause-wise and time-wise isn't always easy.

COMPANY FUN WITH RUN! GEEK! RUN!

In September, DAI Solutions is sponsoring the 2016  Run! Geek! Run!  5K-race in Alexandria, VA. The September 25 run benefits Capitol Post, a local nonprofit that offers veterans in the D.C. region personalized guidance through mentoring, business counseling, and access to key resources, programs and leaders.

In addition to being a way for employees to come together on a Saturday morning for a good cause and some fun and bonding away from the office, running and walking together in this event to raise money for Capitol Post is also an extension of our 2016 commitment to more healthy living. In an employee engagement initiative we are tracking the steps we walk each month with a goal of - together - walking (virtually) across America by December 31.
