Dear Reader,

   You're invited to the launch of a new children's book by the amazing Elisa Kleven this Sunday 8-21 at noon. The Horribly Hungry Gingerbread Boy; A San Francisco Story is packed full of San Francisco landmarks and gingerbread boy who runs amok! We'll have gingerbread cookies and fun activities too so bring the kids for a fun event.

   The third Thursday of each month there will be music and vendors and a good time to be had on Latham Square now that it's finished. From 5-8 wander on down there and visit us beforehand!

   There are two historical walks happening on Saturday for you to know about. At 10 "Jack London's Waterfront" sponsored by the Oakland Tours Program. It begins by the Jack London Square entry arch at the foot of Broadway.
At 1 "Jack London's Oakland is sponsored by the Oakland Heritage Alliance and donations are accepted. It starts in front of Jack's Alaska cabin near Heinold's. Reservations suggested at 510-238-3234 or [email protected].

Of course there are more author events coming up and great books to read so check us out!

   And check out the website where we have a link to a list of books that are needed by Oakland Unified Schools. There is a scarcity of librarians in our schools, and that can mean that fewer people are making sure current, popular books are in school libraries. While the store can't make sure there's a credentialed, devoted librarian in each school (oh that I could!) we can ask you to donate one or more. We'll make sure they get to the Managing Librarian who will distribute them. And if you want to donate school supplies, we'll take those too and get them to where they need to go. Thank you.
