Preschool Playground "Grand Re-Opening" Celebration
One of the highlights of our summer has been the "Grand Re-Opening" of our preschool playground. The playground had been closed since the last week of May due to the church roofing project. The P4K staff took advantage of the time off the playground to clean old toys (and even throw some away) and purchase some new toys and equipment. On August 2nd we celebrated the reopening of the playground with balloons, new toys/equipment and Popsicles! Fun was had by all.
Change is in the Air in the Day Care!
On August 5th we said good-bye to our co-worker, teacher and friend, Shannon Pritzkau who, in her time here, served as the Day Care 2 year old lead teacher and, most recently, as the Day Care Orange Room 4 year old lead teacher.  It was with great sadness that we sent her off but we blessed her as she left to begin studies in Social Work along with a new job that will allow her to have more experience in that field.

Below are the changes to our day care teaching staff  beginning on Monday, August 29:

Clara Manak, currently our 3 year old Lead Teacher, will assume the lead position in the Orange 4 year old room. Clara is excited, and we are excited for her, that she will be finishing her master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction in Early Childhood in just a few days

Ashelle Spears will be Clara's full-time assistant in the Orange 4's. Ashelle has worked part-time in the day care since 2011 so she already knows most of the children and they know her! We are excited to have her with us full-time.

Leandra Cooke, most recently our Infant room Lead Teacher, will move to the 3 year old room and assume the Lead Teacher position. (Leandra has been working alongside Mattie this summer, giving leadership to our Summer Camp program.) Miss Galina will continue to be the assistant in the room. Leandra has her Child Development Associate (CDA) credential in Infant/Toddler care and is currently working to obtain her CDA for Preschool care as well.

Darlene Fimano has already assumed the Infant Room Lead Teacher position. Darlene previously held that position from 2008 - 2012 before moving to a full-time floater position. This summer she has been the lead in the infant room while Leandra helped provide leadership to our school age Summer Camp so the children have already transitioned to having Darlene in the room full-time.

Why move everyone around rather than hire a new teacher? Honestly, our teachers enjoy the change and the challenge of a new class/age level. Our teachers all visit each other's classes and they know all of the children on the hallway and visa versa. So while the some of the children's current teachers will change, they know all of these ladies well which will help with the adjustment. If you have any questions or concerns please contact us!

Clara, Ashellee, Leandra and Darlene

Linked with Love
S ue visited Rosine in her home. Here she is reading her a book P4K sent to her.
Our Nursery School teacher, Sue Smout, recently had the opportunity to travel with three other women from Pearce Church and offer teacher training to the teachers at the Nzige Free Methodist Preschool. While there, Sue was able to visit with Rosine, P4K's sponsored child.

I heard from Sue a number of times while she was in Rwanda. One message she sent said, "Wait until you see what I received as a gift today from a child. The children here make these cool cars out of sorghum sticks. It will be AWESOME in the Nzige room."

For those so you new to P4K, we have a replica Nzige classroom where we can take P4K classes to learn about the Nzige Preschool and our sponsored child, Rosine. Sue and the other Pearce teachers visit a home in Nzige and receive toys made out of sorghum sticks.

KidStuff Coupon Books are Coming Your Way!
This fall P4K is selling valuable, family-friendly KidStuff Coupon Books filled with hundreds of national, regional and local coupons for all ages! The KidStuff Book is conveniently organized, offers incredible savings and is sold exclusively through schools! Use just a few coupons and save more than the $25 cost of the book!  You will enjoy fabulous savings from: Macy's, Sears, Dick's, Michaels, Payless + more! You can go to the following link for a more complete list of stores,  restaurants , etc.:  KidStuff Rochester Edition

P4K will earn 50% for every book we sell! Some of the profits raised will go toward our yearly sponsorship of Rosine, our child in Nzige, Africa. The remainder will go toward projects and/or  equipment  that the P4K staff identifies as needed.

The book/coupons are valid from August 2016 - December 2017 and distribution at P4K will take place between September 12 - 26. Each child in our P4K programs will get a book sent home with them and instructions for purchasing the book or returning it. While children can sell more books to friends and family, there will be no pressure at all on families to "sell books". The program directors looked over the book months ago and were very impressed with the coupon options for families and the profit margin for P4K so thought we would give it a try....but there will be NO pressure from us to buy or sale anything! So look over the books when they come home decide if your family can benefit from the savings.

 Help us get "free stuff"
We have been notified that the Labels for Education program will be phasing out over the next year.   During the 2016 - 2017 school year LFE will continue to honor labels only from schools, like P4K, who are currently registered with the program. This means that we need to collect as many labels as possible now so that we can redeem them before the program ends next year. Check your cupboards and cut those labels for us! There is a jar at the sign in/out desk where you can deposit your labels.  Information about the Labels for Education program and examples of labels that are accepted may be found at the following link: Labels for Education
