"Please,  ya'll, may I have a home? I have been waiting patiently for over 2 years!"
-Jax

Jax has been in the SCP program for over 2 years waiting for his perfect forever home!  Jax came to SCP with a severe case of heart worms.  He has been clear of heart worms for a long time now, but when he gets worried or stressed his heart cannot handle those emotions due to the damage that was caused by the  heart worms .  So, Jax likes to play "sick" when he has been on home visits before, but we promise he really is not sick and while a vet visit and medicine may be required to help him recover (if he gets initially too stressed), he will be fabulous upon adjusting  to his new home! J ax is about 4 years old and  absolutely loves other dogs, so we believe he will adjust better to his new home and not play sick if he has another active dog friend he can play with to help get him adjusted to his new surroundings and show him the ropes! He loves to play with other dogs, but he is very vocal when he plays. He's like a bossy kid that always wants to be the teacher, so he can tell everyone what to do. He is really very sweet!!!  A home visit will be required prior to Jax going to any home.

Please email his foster mom at [email protected] before going to meet him at Petco so we can set up a meet and greet. Jax may not always be at Petco on Saturdays.

WHISKERS, WAGS & WINE - ANNUAL FUNDRAISER INFORMATION:

Dear Volunteers & Friends of Second Chance Pets,

As you may have heard, there will not be a SCP fundraiser in 2016.  We've opted to move the event to the first quarter of the year therefore, this next year, 2017, Second Chance Pets is celebrating its 22nd year of saving lives in the Clear Lake Houston area with an exciting new fundraiser event!  It is our pleasure to introduce Whiskers, Wags & Wine, scheduled for March 30th, 2017 at the newly remodeled Lakewood Yacht Club, located at  2425 NASA Parkway, Seabrook, TX   77586.  The Event will be 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM and is going to include a full seated dinner, with silent and live auctions as well as a 'wine pull' and special entertainment!   Tickets go on sale January 1st and will be $60 per person and a table of 10 may be purchased for the discounted price of $500. The board of Second Chance Pets has again honored me with the privilege of chairing this awesome event, and we've been blessed to have Trisha Stetzel of Fetch Pet Care step up to serve as Auction Item Chairperson!

We still have many other key positions to fill to make this event happen and we desperately need your help to ensure this event is as successful as possible!  With your generous assistance, SCP will be able to continue its mission of saving the lives of our furry friends for another year.

Will you please join us for a volunteers' meeting/kickoff social to discuss and plan Whiskers, Wags & Wine at my home, located at  1303 Lakeway Drive, Seabrook, TX   77586 on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at 7:00 PM?  Light refreshments/drinks will be served.   Please RSVP to me at [email protected]if you will be attending (or if you cannot attend but still want to be on the volunteer list for this event).

Thank you in advance for your continued support and compassion.  Without volunteers such as you, our work would not be possible.

  FEATURED ADOPTABLE KITTENS
"THE FLUFFY FIVE"

From L to R: Onyx, Galena and Citrine (brown tabbies) and Jasper and Opal (siamese).  These adorable kittens will be available for adoption sometime around the middle of September.  They were pulled from Galveston County Animal Resource Center as sick, even tinier kittens.  Did you  know  that SCP has a 2 for $150 adoption special when you adopt 2 cats or kittens from us? Two kittens make a great choice to adopt together because they entertain themselves by playing and wrestling with each other which in turn helps keep them from getting too inquisitive into your household furnishings or your hands or feet when bored! Plus, their silly antics playing and chasing each other will be sure to put a smile on your face and make you LOL!

FEATURED ADOPTABLE DOG
BOWIE

Hi, my name is Bowie ("Bo"), and I'm a handsome shepherd-chow mix boy with a lot to offer my new forever family. I'm wary of strangers, but once I'm past my initial shyness, I'll be your new best friend - loyal, loving and affectionate. I'm good on a leash, have good house manners, house and crate trained and I get along with other dogs. My foster says I'm very playful with my foster sister - lots of tug of war sessions with toys every day. I love to chase squirrels, rabbits and kitties, so I would not be good in a family with cats. My perfect forever home would be with an experienced dog family that doesn't have small children and would be able to continue my socialization with strangers and new situations. I'm a large dog who might knock down a small child and I get scared with loud noises - which small children are known for! I'm a special needs dog since I've been diagnosed with hip dysplasia (common in GSD dogs). It is presently under control, but the family would need to keep my weight down and my exercise up and I'll have lots of good years ahead of me. If you come to Petco to see me, please understand that I may be shy and not show my true personality with all the noise and strange people at the adoption events, but the great personality is there waiting for you.

FEATURED HAPPY TAILS:
MONTY (fka "Sammy")

Monty was rescued from a homeless man by one of our volunteers when he about 3 months old.  Upon coming into SCP, we discovered that something was wrong with his back left leg so off to the vet he went for an assessment.  Everyone was surprised to learn how badly his leg had been injured! Monty had a severe broken left leg....his femoral head was so broken that it was no longer connected to the rest of the femur or at his knee joint and actually sat behind his knee cap which was also displaced by the broken femur. Because of the severeness of the injury and the fact that it was not a new injury, our trusted vets recommended that Monty have his leg amputated.

Well Monty did not let that news put a hitch in his giddy-up! In fact, the day after surgery he was trying to race around the room so much that his foster had to put him in time-out! From there, there was no stopping him! His recovery was amazing and he was getting around better on 3 legs than he was with all 4!

Monty was quickly adopted by his new moms and they absolutely love him! He even has a dog friend to chase around.  Check out his video below! His new moms write:

"I have been "very good".  My home is wonderful. Thank you for helping me find such a wonderful home. My big teeth are coming in. I eat all the time (well when I am not terrorizing the plants or sleeping).  The thing called Bizzy (the dog) fails to appreciate my great ambush ability but we are best buddies. My  Mommies squirt me every now and again with something wet. It is most annoying. It seems to come when I am in the plants or snapping my claws on the wonderful couch. It is completely covered now but I still figure out how to get to it. They also have lots of funny noises usually again when I am having fun."
