Did You Know? What is a Medical Evaluation
When children come to the Children's Advocacy Center (CAC) for a medical evaluation, it is very similar to a well-child check that any child might receive at a pediatrician's office. These evaluations are noninvasive and check the whole of the child's health, in addition to checking for symptoms of the alleged abuse. The pediatricians are able to determine if abuse has occurred, and, equally important, are able to assure children that their bodies will heal.
Medical evaluations are the
second most requested service at the CAC. There are two child abuse pediatricians (working at the CAC through a contract with OU-Tulsa School of Community Medicine) and one fellow that provided
over 750 medical evaluations last year.
The CAC is the
only advocacy center in the state with this medical component on-site.
