BREEAM Green Building Program Comes to the US

Green building is nothing new in the U.K. as evidenced by the history of the BREEAM green building rating program. BREEAM was developed long before LEED, but until now has not been used in the United States. As the article below reports, an existing building in California is seeking certification as the first BREEAM building in the U.S. How widely this new-to-the-U.S. rating system will be used remains to be seen.
On a different note, The Masonry Society has announced registration for our upcoming Annual Meeting to be held in October in Raleigh, NC. I hope you will join us for some great educational programs, including presentations on sustainability and masonry. For more information check out this link.

UK Sustainability Rating System Makes Way to US

Companies seeking innovative ways to implement sustainable design have a new way to measure sustainable construction -- the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology, or BREEAM, certification, which is similar to LEED and has been used in the UK for the last 25 years. A Los Angeles project could be the first in the US to be BREEAM-certified.
