The Thirteenth Sunday after Trinity | August 21, 2016
We hope each of you has had a relaxing, refreshing summer. We look forward to welcoming each of you back this Sunday, August 21, as our students and teachers return to school: we will take time in the 10:30 service to recognize teachers, staff, students and parents, both from our school and from our area's other fine schools.
Join us for Hamburgers, Hot Dogs and Ice Cream after the service!
Bring a dish to share, if you wish!

We look forward to seeing you!
From David Browder:
The Christian Church throughout the West is losing an alarming number of our youth when they reach college or otherwise go out on their own. They are walking away from the Faith on a large scale when they hear Christianity questioned...even when questioned in a respectful way (all the more frequently, they encounter hostility and pressure from professors and peers). This is not the fault of the ones raising the objections. Paraphrasing C.S. Lewis: Why are we surprised when people raise objections and non-believers say non-believing things?

Sunday School_ All Ages. 9_15 to 10_15 am
We love to support parents in raising their children to walk in the wisdom of God.
  • First, there is Sunday School, so children can see how to find Jesus in the Bible and all around us.
  • There is an adult class during this hour, as well.
  • Then--after a snack--children are escorted to Children's Church, for learning our way of worship.
  • Next, in catechesis, older children are taught to understand and recall the faith, using question-and-answer and musical memory. During this time little ones play outside.
  • Finally, families come to the Lord's table together for Christ's blessing.
  • After the service, families meet and enjoy fellowship.
Dedicated clergy, volunteers, and staff work together to make the Lord's day special for children each Sunday. We're eager to see you for Sunday School at 9:15. Even if you can't make it every week, do try to come for our Celebration Sundays every six to seven weeks, when we have feasting and extra games. We'll make sure your children get to Children's church and then back to you in the sanctuary around 11:30.

Financial Peace University Begins August 21
Eleanor and Jaron Bergin lead a new 9 week class of the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University from 6 to 8 pm in the Ingram Room beginning Sunday, August 21.
We all need a plan for our money. Financial Peace University  (FPU) is that plan! It teaches God's ways of handling money. Through video teaching, class discussions and interactive small group activities, FPU presents biblical, practical steps to get from where you are to where you've dreamed you could be. This plan will show you how to get rid of debt, manage your money, spend and save wisely, and much more!
Churches down through the years have provided places for the earthly remains of their parishioners. In keeping with that tradition, St. Thomas' is building a columbarium--a place for the respectful placement of cinerary urns--to provide a final resting place for those with deep connection to and love for our parish and school.  Construction under the Bell Tower will begin this summer.  Flyers are available in the Narthex, or you can contact Cat Anderson, 713-412-4442, or Nancy Graves, 713-559-1622, for more information.
St. Thomas_ Season of Gratitude
As we review the past year and look forward to the new school year, we at St. Thomas' enter our Season of Gratitude. During this time we will reflect on those individuals who have helped us grow and develop as a church. We are reminded of those things for which we are grateful-our homes, families, friends, jobs, talents, opportunities, our schools and, of course, our church, as well as those who share their time, talent and treasure with us at St. Thomas'.
