A Message from the Superintendent

Dear Lovejoy Community:

The 2016-2017 school year is off to a great start.  We welcomed over 4,000 students to our six campuses on Monday.  I know there are always some first week frustrations with traffic at drop off and pick up times, but we all know it will get better by next week. If you have questions or suggestions, please be sure to let us know. Our principals always appreciate opportunities to do a better job, and your feedback is a critical component of success. You may reach out to me as well: (c) 972.415.8129.

Chad Collins-Board President
Chad Collins, LISD Board President, is offering a few remarks on the State of our District. His presentation outlines the work of Lovejoy ISD over the past 12 months and the alignment of that work with the priorities adopted by the LISD Board of Trustees.

The Foundation for Lovejoy Schools hosted a welcome dinner for families new to Lovejoy.  I love meeting our new families and hearing about the reasons they chose Lovejoy and about the positive experiences they have already had.

The volleyball season is well underway.  The varsity team participated in the Allen Texas Open this past weekend.  Head Coach, Jason Nicholson, celebrated his 100th win, against McKinney Boyd, during the event.  Lovejoy secured a second place overall finish.  Callie Holden (LHS/Senior) and Lexie Smith (LHS/Senior) were named to the All-Tournament Team.  Congratulations to Coach Nicholson and team, on this stellar start to the volleyball season.

The Junior Varsity Volleyball team won the Berkner Varsity Tournament.  Congratulations to all.

A Message from the
Deputy Superintendent

Dear Lovejoy Community:

I hope each of your students has experienced a great start to the new school year.  As I begin my twelfth year in Lovejoy, I can't help but reflect upon the many special qualities which define what we have come to call "The Lovejoy Way".  One special quality is the partnership the district shares with parents and community members.

The district developed the Leadership Lovejoy initiative to help strengthen and expand our strong partnership with parents and community members.  The inaugural class met during the spring of 2014 and graduated a class of 23.  To date, Leadership Lovejoy graduates total 78.  Leadership Lovejoy was created as an opportunity for participants to learn the history, educational practices, programs, and philosophy of Lovejoy ISD.  This is also an opportunity for the Leadership Lovejoy members to provide feedback, ask questions, and share ideas to help the district improve.

Leadership Lovejoy, Fifth Graduating Class

2017 is the centennial year of Lovejoy ISD.  As such, we redesigned the structure of Leadership Lovejoy for the Centennial Cohort.  We are limiting the cohort to 25 members, and will have five face-to-face meetings over the course of the school year, rather than completing a cohort each semester.  We hope this "every other month" meeting structure will be more manageable for busy schedules.

If you would like to apply to be part of the Leadership Lovejoy Centennial Cohort, please click here , complete, and submit the application by September 7.  Whether your schedule will allow you to be part of this Leadership Lovejoy Cohort or not, we greatly appreciate your second-to-none partnership and feedback.

We hope you love where you learn.  If you have feedback to help us improve, please do not hesitate to contact me on my cell at 214.385.1967.

Respectfully,
Dennis Muizers

Back to School Safety Tips
Traffic will increase tremendously during the first week of school. Be mindful of the added congestion and leave your home earlier to arrive at school on time.

Tips for Driving in School Zones
  • Put down that cell phone. The State of Texas prohibits the use of any wireless communication device while in a school zone unless your vehicle is stopped or unless your using a "hands-free" device.
  • Always obey school zone speed limit signs. Remember, traffic fines usually double in school zones.
  • Drop off and pick up your children in your school's designated areas.
  • Keep an eye on children gathered at bus stops.
  • Be alert for children who might dart across the drive or between vehicles on their way to/from the building.

Tips for Driving near School Buses
  • School buses use yellow flashing lights to alert motorists that they are preparing to stop to load or unload children.
  • School buses use alternately flashing red lights and an extended stop sign arm to signal motorists that the bus is stopped and children are getting on or off the bus.
  • If you approach a school bus from either direction and the bus is displaying alternately flashing red lights and extended stop sign arm, you must stop. In Texas, it is illegal to pass a school bus that is stopped to load or unload children. Do not pass the school bus until:
    • the school bus has resumed motion, or
    • you are signaled by the driver to proceed, or
    • the red lights are no longer flashing.
  • The area 10 feet around a school bus is where children are in the most danger of being hit. Stop your car far enough from the bus to allow children the necessary space to safely enter and exit the bus.
  • Be alert. Children can be unpredictable.
