A Note From Our President

Dear GNJMA  Members,

The Olympics:  the only time the entire world comes together to celebrate what is possible.  Amidst the tragedies throughout the World we witness daily, it gives us hope and lifts the spirit.  We root for the underdog and are inspired by blind courage.  Just knowing what these athletes and their families have endured to get to this level of competition is hard to comprehend.  Watching Team USA compete and win medals, it makes us even more proud to be an American.

These athletes are not unlike us working in our businesses everyday striving to succeed and looking to reach the highest level of our "game". As an Association, we are working everyday to help our Members navigate and stay educated on challenges and opportunities in our industry, in our region.  We support each other and cheer our collective efforts.

Our Annual Meeting is time for us to come together to strengthen our Association and industry, in our region and beyond.  We discuss what is possible and tackle the tough issues.  This year, we will be bringing resources to the table for you on Electronic Logs and give you an opportunity to network with fellow Members and vendors who serve our industry day in and day out.

We also are holding our annual Group Leader's Marketplace.  This is a great opportunity to increase your tour business by showing your group leaders all the wonderful destinations and attractions they can travel to.

It is also a time to come together to celebrate. To that point, we have a day of fun and networking with a golf outing during the day and a Meet & Mingle in the evening.

So please, continue to help us help you.   I encourage you to take a moment out of your very busy schedules today to go register online.

In closing, please look for an email from Pattie regarding the upcoming 2016 Board of Director's elections.  Please give it your attention.

We look forward to seeing you in October!

Sincerely,

Tim Stout
President

New Jersey CDL Testing Updates

1)  As a follow-up to our meeting in April in Trenton with Chief Raymond Martinez of the Motor Vehicle Commission and his staff, we recently had a second call to discuss updates on the CDL testing issues, the Third Party Testing Bill proposed and a Train the Trainer offering.

The commission will offer a Train the Trainer class on Commercial Driver License (CDL) skills test requirements. The CDL Mobile Compliance Unit will present a full-day seminar to include classroom training, as well as a practical observation, to assist Motor Coach trainers in preparing applicants on the three phases of the CDL skills test.

Emphasis will be placed on the pre-trip inspection, based on the new Federal regulations, and a classroom review of basic vehicle control and roadway operations.

The goal of the Train the Trainer program is to provide updated training information to improve the Motor Coach training program and increase successful CDL skills test results.

Training will take place in October 2016; dates and locations to be announced.

2)  The Bill proposing third-party testing in our state has been referred to Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee.  The GNJMA Legislative Committee, along with Joseph Simonetta, our lobbyist, is closely monitoring this Bill.  Introduced in June, the proposed Bill establishes a pilot program appointing third-party vendors to administer commercial driver license testing .

3)  We are interested in knowing how you are doing with CDL testing date scheduling.  If you encounter a problem, please contact Pattie Cowley , who will in-turn work with the NJMVC to a more reasonable date.
