August 12, 2016
Hello Ambassadors,
This edition is action packed with updates on programs recently conducted, training opportunities upcoming, and much more!  Thank you for all you do as Extension Wellness Ambassadors.  I am incredibly fortunate to be to work with caring people who love to help others.
Ambassador Events and Updates
Faithful Families Program Concluded
Thank you to Troy Garlin and Dr. George Ann Stallings for assisting teaching lessons as part of this program with Gennesaret Missionary Baptist Church.  We had a total of 25 participants over the course of 9 lessons. I am waiting on the evaluation data to be calculated to have official results, but early results show improvements in blood pressure, adoption of healthy eating habits, and increased physical activity.  In addition, they have established a walking trail and church garden.
We have funds to work with another church as part of this pilot and research project.  I have identified an income qualified church and have met with the pastor, but have not gotten a commitment from them to conduct the program yet.  Stay tuned!

New Ambassadors
Extension Wellness Ambassador Training Results in New Ambassadors in Four Counties
I want to welcome Leisa Stotts as the newest Clark County Extension Wellness Ambassador graduate!  This training included Hot Spring County, Hempstead County, Saline County, and Clark County.  For Saline and Hot Spring County, these are their first ambassadors in the program.  I feel confident that we will have additional chances to work with this group on multi-county projects. These are great ladies that you are going to enjoy.  One of the truly special parts of this training is that we had three generations of a family being trained together-Grandmother, Daughter, and GrandDaughter!  The Granddaughter is also the first Junior Age Ambassador trained and will be working as an ambassador on her college campus.
Clark County Host Mediterranean Diet Advanced Wellness Ambassador Training
We were so fortunate to be able to offer an advanced training opportunity to Extension Wellness Ambassadors on the Mediterranean Diet.  We had 12 ambassadors from 5 counties and two districts attend.  The food was delicious and it was great to see some of the Ambassadors from the original training that we conducted again.

Training Opportunities
Extension Get Fit Basic Training August 24th
Registration is closed on this training.  Troy Garlin is registered to attend. Jolene Green and Leisa Stotts have already taken the Basic Training.  They are great resources for individuals and groups that have questions about physical fitness or how to start a new class.
Extension Get Fit Advanced Trainings: September 7th
The first-ever Advanced Extension Get Fit Trainings are scheduled for September 7th in Conway. The morning training will focus on Deskercise. In the afternoon, Exercises for Low Back will be the focus. Participants may register for one or both. Cost for one training is $20, or register for both for $30. Registration deadline is August 24th.

Those who have completed the Extension Get Fit Basic Training are eligible to attend advanced trainings
Clark County Extension Wellness Ambassador Meeting: September 23rd at 9:00 AM at Extension Office
With all the effort around Faithful Families, new Ambassador Training Classes, and the Mediterranean Advanced Training Class, it seems like it has been forever since we have had a chance to get our county together for project planning, success stories, and continuing education.  I am excited to announce that we have teleconferencing equipment available to make meeting with me and with people you are serving easier.  We will receive training on how to use the program and equipment.  Each of you has a webcam to take home that can be used with a desktop computer.  You can also zoom from your phone or tablet-Apple and Android versions available. You will be surprised how easy it is!  We also need to brainstorm on what projects you all are interested in doing going forward.  I look forward to seeing you soon!
Food For Thought
August Is Children's Eye Health and Safety Month!

It's almost back-to-school time and you're prepared with your child's enrollment forms, orientation schedules, and immunizations--but what about their eyes?
August is Children's Eye Health and Safety Month-a great signal for you to get your child's eyes checked before school starts.
Join us as we observe Children's Eye Health and Safety Month in partnership with Prevent Blindness America and the American Academy of Ophthalmologists.
Most children have healthy eyes. But there are conditions that can threaten good vision. Because you can't always "look" into your child's eyes to tell if they have eye health problems, set up some time today for an eye exam. Volunteer Hours
Please report your volunteer efforts
Tired of recording volunteer and continuing education hours on paper? Now you can report your hours online.
I will also accept volunteer hours reported by email or paper form dropped off at the office.  The advantage of the online system is that it totals your hours for you and you can see what you have and have not reported.
Log in Information:
You may enter hours already completed but not reported to your county agent. Later, you can view and edit hours previously entered and keep track of mileage.
To sign in later (after your account is set up) visit  forms.uaex.edu/volsignin .
