A Message From The President

Dear Florida Chapter Members,

If you know me, you know I demand value for my money. Yet sometimes, value is more than just a good "deal." For me, there is great value in the relationships built through my chapter membership. When life recently surprised me with a good old-fashioned reality check, I knew I could turn to any of our approximately 900 chapter members for assistance. I knew that if I made a call, help would be on the way. What a great feeling, what value!

While the bond that CCIMs share and build over the years is phenomenal, each year your many state and district volunteer leaders strive to add additional, tangible value to your membership. Thanks to all these folks, I present to you my TOP FIVE value propositions for your 2016 Florida chapter membership - are you taking advantage of them?

First I-4 Corridor Update Event A Success

CRE experts from Tampa to Orlando converged in Lakeland earlier this month at a conference addressing the latest commercial real estate news and trends associated with the I-4 Corridor, including insights and analysis from top market gurus and tours of the area's newest university.

Featured speaker at the I-4 Commercial Corridor Update was nationally recognized Brian D. Bailey, CCIM, Senior Technical Expert, Commercial Real Estate with the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, who offered expertise and insight as it relates to Perspectives on the National and Local Economic Conditions, Commercial Real Estate Sector Risks and Challenges and Opportunities in the CRE Lending Sector. Bailey emphasized research showing the I-4 corridor is one of the best commercial real estate opportunities in the country.

Focus On Scholarships
NOW Easier Than Ever!

Filling out the paperwork to apply for a Florida Chapter Scholarship just got a bit easier, according to the chapter Scholarship Committee Chair, Mike Reichenbach.

We have developed a master application for Scholarships for courses that will hopefully be easier to disseminate and for all to use, explains the Madeira Beach CCIM. The new, simplified form has been beta tested and is now live on the FLCCIM website, the chairman explains.

"In that all scholarships and indeed CCIMs are looking for the same thing, I also am looking to add more about the Donors of the Scholarships on the cover page to further promote their legacy and encourage others," Reichenbach shares.

Legislatively Speaking...

Support Amendment 4!  Amendment 4 will be on the ballot on August 30, and, if passed, would exempt solar panels on commercial properties from real property taxes. In addition, solar panels and equipment installed on all properties would be exempt from tangible personal property tax under Amendment 4. Renewal energy devices and solar panels are currently exempt from real property taxes on residential properties.

In addition, a variety of Florida laws became effective
July 1st.

Crotty Takes NBA Attitude To CRE World, With Help Of CCIM

To lead one dynamic and fruitful career in a lifetime is a great accomplishment. The opportunity to have led two is beyond remarkable. Meet John K. Crotty.

Known for effective execution of office and retail deals throughout the Southeast, particularly within the $3 to $40 million range, Crotty, a Designee CCIM of the Miami/Dade-Monroe District and Principal with Avison Young, draws much of his preparedness and discipline in real estate from his first career as a point guard with the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Having played for top teams including the Miami Heat and the Utah Jazz, when he entered the commercial real estate industry, he immediately applied each principle that had previously gained success for his teams - and it worked.

During his 14 years to-date as a commercial real estate broker, Crotty has completed more than $2 billion in transactions. He has represented top private and institutional clients such as Bank of America, BBVA Compass, LNR, KTR Capital, Cerberus, Equity One, BBX Capital, SunGard Insurance Systems and CW Capital.

Locals To Be Highlighted At Atlanta's Thrive Conference

CCIM Thrive, CCIM Institute's annual conference, connects today's leading experts with the ideas and deal makers shaping tomorrow's commercial real estate.

This year's event in Atlanta Oct. 24-25 features education sessions on advanced market analysis using STDB, discounted cash flow analysis, and prospecting.

Featured speakers include CCIMs from Florida, including West Coast District's Past President, Yakhin Israel.

Yakhin Israel is commercial real estate lender with Fifth Third Bank. In his current role of Vice President, Southeast Region, he is responsible for building and maintaining relationships within Fifth Third's footprint in the Southeast (NC, SC, GA and FL) and originating $1-$10 million construction and mini-perm loans secured by income-producing commercial real estate.
