GETTING IN SHAPE AND HAVING FUN:
Meet Chelsea Schultz

Since 2002, Chelsea Schultz has competed in a number of sports with Special Olympics including, basketball, athletics, softball, and floor
hockey. A little over year ago, Chelsea started working in the maintenance department of the Ha nnaford store in her hometown of Nashua. This new position required a great deal of physical activity.  As the months went by, she noticed that she was losing weight and her overall energy had increased. This newfound energy and interest in becoming more physically active led Chelsea to involve herself in more physical activities, such as walking and bike riding, outside of her normal work day and Special Olympics training.

Chelsea feels that these healthy lifestyle changes have improved her athletic performance at Special Olympics competitions. Chelsea pointed to the tying run that she scored for Plus Pride in their victory over Keene at the State Softball Tournament in Keene on August 6th, as a perfect example of her increased performance. She said that getting healthy helped her score that run because she was much faster than in years past. After Saturday's Tournament, Chelsea says that she plans to continue her healthy choices and looks forward to being even faster next year!

STATE GOLF TOURNAMENT:
Meet Ben and Robert

Special Olympics athlete Ben Banfill and Unified partner Robert Smith from Independent Strout competed in the State Golf Tournament on Tuesday, August 2nd, taking home a gold medal in the 18 Hole Alternate Shot Event. Ben and Robert became teammates a few years ago when Ben was in need of a new golf partner. Robert was available, and a great partnership was formed!  According to Robert, Ben is "one of the nicest guys he has ever met," and also is a very hard worker. For his part, Ben appreciates the exercise that he is able to get through his Special Olympics training.

The teammates practice every Wednesday during the season, and plan on continuing their practices and team lunches even now that the State Tournament has wrapped up.

Robert is a retired school principal and has some common ground with Ben in their sense of humor and their love of music. They both claim that the other is a very hard worker and a great guy!

Congratulations Ben, Robert and everyone who participated in the Tournament!
