The Fourteenth Sunday after Trinity | August 28, 2016
Youth at Camp Eagle
A Report from Rob Scholl:

Could we possibly have as good a time as last year? That's the thought that ran through my mind as I boarded the bus for a 6 day trip (August 4-9) with 13 kids from our youth group and 2 other adult chaperones (including the rector) to  Camp Eagle  in Rock Springs, Texas on the Nueces River -- our 2nd year. It's the same thought that occurred to me a couple hours later when the bus started making loud noises and our freshman girls started shrieking -- which led to a long detour at a Walmart in Kerrville for provisions and a new tire.
Sunday School_ All Ages. 9_15 to 10_15 am
We love to support parents in raising their children to walk in the wisdom of God.
  • First, there is Sunday School, so children can see how to find Jesus in the Bible and all around us.
  • There is an adult class during this hour, as well.
  • Then--after a snack--children are escorted to Children's Church, for learning our way of worship.
  • Next, in catechesis, older children are taught to understand and recall the faith, using question-and-answer and musical memory. During this time little ones play outside.
  • Finally, families come to the Lord's table together for Christ's blessing.
  • After the service, families meet and enjoy fellowship.
Dedicated clergy, volunteers, and staff work together to make the Lord's day special for children each Sunday. We're eager to see you for Sunday School at 9:15. Even if you can't make it every week, do try to come for our Celebration Sundays every six to seven weeks, when we have feasting and extra games. We'll make sure your children get to Children's church and then back to you in the sanctuary around 11:30.

HIGH SCHOOL LOCK-IN THIS FRIDAY TO SATURDAY
High school students: join us for a lock-in Friday, August 26 at 6:30 pm until Saturday, August 27 at 9:00am.

Fun, fellowship and food! To RSVP,  please email Christine Dubbert  or Rob Scholl  or contact the church office.

Due to the Lock-In, we will not have our regular Sunday meeting. Our Youth Group is for those in grades 7 and up, meets most Sundays at 5 pm in the Murray Center gym, studying the Gospel of Mark. All youth are invited!
9_11_ 15 Years
In remembrance of the 15th anniversary of 9/11

We will offer a solemn service of Choral Evensong at 4 pm on September 11 in remembrance of the 9/11 tragedy 15 years ago. We will, in particular, remember our first responders and veterans.

This Remembrance is sponsored by the James Hardage Lane chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Participants will include representatives from the Bellaire Police and Fire Departments, the Boy Scouts, the Girl Scouts, veterans, the STE Pipe Band and the Parish choir.

A reception in the courtyard follows the service.

Financial Peace University Begins August 21
Eleanor and Jaron Bergin are leading a 9 week class of the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University from 6 to 8 pm in the Ingram Room.
We all need a plan for our money. Financial Peace University  (FPU) is that plan! It teaches God's ways of handling money. Through video teaching, class discussions and interactive small group activities, FPU presents biblical, practical steps to get from where you are to where you've dreamed you could be. This plan will show you how to get rid of debt, manage your money, spend and save wisely, and much more!
Churches down through the years have provided places for the earthly remains of their parishioners. In keeping with that tradition, St. Thomas' is building a columbarium--a place for the respectful placement of cinerary urns--to provide a final resting place for those with deep connection to and love for our parish and school.  Construction under the Bell Tower will begin this summer.  Flyers are available in the Narthex, or you can contact Cat Anderson, 713-412-4442, or Nancy Graves, 713-559-1622, for more information.
St. Thomas_ Season of Gratitude
As we review the past year and look forward to the new school year, we at St. Thomas' enter our Season of Gratitude. During this time we will reflect on those individuals who have helped us grow and develop as a church. We are reminded of those things for which we are grateful-our homes, families, friends, jobs, talents, opportunities, our schools and, of course, our church, as well as those who share their time, talent and treasure with us at St. Thomas'.
