August 2016
Issue No. 11
Thankful...Prayerful...

Monday, August 15, 2016 is the start of the 4th and 5th grades Potter's Wheel Camp (PWC). This is the last of three camps at Baptist Village for youth.

Thankful...that during PWC, five-hundred forty PWC campers and counselors met the Living God. In our best understanding from the Counselors and leaders, at least one third of the campers made a decision to follow Christ. Every life was impacted!

Thankful...that the three camps were attended by someone from EVERY Arab people group...Evangelical Christian (less than 10%); Orthodox; Muslim; Druze; Secular humanist and Atheists. Importantly, the walls of prejudice did not exist...all campers were together as one people to hear about the ONE.

Thankful...that the FON ministry is more than a summer camp program. FON is a ministry that works throughout each year to build partnerships between people, churches and Christian organizations. We do this to help enrich and enlarge the Evangelical ministry of the Nazareth Baptist School.

Thankful...that God allowed FON to help three displaced teams to do ministry with those in the NBS network. One team was able to minister in an area where a Christian camp has never taken place. God opened doors. The Gospel was shared without compromise all around and in Nazareth. Another team was able to help provide additional support to a children's camp and the other team added resources at the 8th and 9th PWC.

Thankful...that God and His servants equipped over 50 older youth as counselors. They never lost focus! From the rising of the sun to way past the setting of the same, they poured the Gospel into their cabin mates and others...sometimes they engaged the campers through serious Bible devotions and other times through fun exercises and games. Every action brought the Gospel to light.

Thankful...for partners who came alongside of NBS and the Local Baptist Church to serve. FON partners gave of themselves so that counselors could spend time discipling and mentoring youth in their own language. The teamwork and spirit of servant leadership was at times overwhelming, and always sweet and humbling! Thank you partners!!!

Prayerful...that our readers will invest in ministry with Friends of Nazareth. Ministry requires financial resources. We need your financial help. Thank you for considering a recurring gift or a special donation. Our next steps toward expanding Discipleship efforts depends upon the financial resources to make this happen. Donors, your are a blessing.
Will you consider making a gift to Friends of Nazareth?

The camp T-shirts spoke to the theme of the camps...Ask me about Jesus. Each counselor was trained to share the Gospel and to disciple youth with diverse religious backgrounds.

The partner for PWC1 was Dallas Baptist University. Jay Harley and his team of students came to serve and serve they did!

There were 18 occupants in each cabin. Three counselors and fifteen campers. Rule #1 - SMILE! The joy of he Lord is your strength!

Softball? I'll try! Campers loved throwing the ball and trying hard to hit it and run.

Standing room only in the Worship Center...which was set up and taken down multiple times each day to accommodate worship, meals, crafts and activities. The partner teams became expert set-up/take-down workers. Thanks so much for your gift of service.

Many, many of the campers learned for the first time that Jesus loved them. This simple song carried the message well.

Prayer time.

Campers each received an age-appropriate devotional book.

Every camper received a copy of the Gospel of John in Arabic. John 3:16 can be read in their own language.

This is where it all happens. The cabins at Baptist Village. Crowded. 18/cabin! Aged and tired with bugs, some plumbing issues, yet, loaded with special moments. It is here that many, many meet Jesus each summer.

Meet Stan Young. He is the Student Pastor at FBC, Athens, AL. He and his team were servant leaders during the 6th and 7th Grade PWC, week 2. Thanks, Stan for your input throughout the year that helped the local leaders construct a schedule that included multiple worship times and strong devotional times. Your team set the bar for excellence!

The kitchen team prepared over 2600 meals!!!! Every meal was a homemade traditional Arabic feast. They even made handmade tortelinni by the thousands!!!! They are a community of love and service. Thank you dear ones.

Mr. Mike, film producer extraordinnaire. He and Lainey worked tirelessly to get photos and films to Facebook and #potterswheelcamp, #friendsofnazareth and elsewhere. The posts received thousands of views.

Baptist Village is a place uniquely dedicated to bringing its users closer to the Living God. Thank you Philip and Kenny and your staff for preserving this treasure. May the future bring you laborers and resources to help repair, revitalize and replace outdated and worn parts of the camp. Thank you for working with FON and NBS to help add one more camp to the schedule in 2017. Until then...
