SAINTS PETER & PAUL SCHOOL

2 ALUMS HONORED BY
NAPERVILLE MAGAZINE

Due to its quality of life, Naperville has earned a reputation in the Chicagoland area as a destination that attracts countless numbers of people to relocate, educate their children, worship, shop, and dine.  Each year the Naperville Magazine honors local businesses and members with its Best of Naperville Awards.  Citizens and visitors are asked to vote over a six month period for the best our community has to offer in forty categories.  Among them are Best Bank, Best Dentist, Best Doctor, Best Fitness Club, Best Gift Shop, Best Florist, Best Hotel, Best Pizza, Best Men's Store, etc.  This year was particularly significant as two of our school alumni-Heather Ryan '82 as the Best Attorney and Dan Jurjovec '95 as Best Custom Builder-- received this prestigious honor.

A graduate of Loyola University and John Marshall Law School, Heather McArdle Ryan '82 has been a lawyer for twenty plus years.  The mother of two Saints Peter and Paul graduates, Grace '14 and Emma '16, she has been practicing criminal law for over 20 years in DuPage, Cook, Will, Kane and Kendall Counties.  She is a former assistant State's Attorney who has prosecuted cases in the traffic, misdemeanor and felony divisions.  That experience benefits her clients as she knows both sides of a criminal prosecution very well and, therefore, can effectively negotiate with prosecutors to gain positive results.

Heather also represents clients at Secretary of State License Reinstatement Hearings and has had success in counseling clients in their efforts to be approved for full reinstatement and restricted driving permits. She maintains an office in both Naperville and Wheaton, has served two terms on our Advancement Board, and is a frequent speaker at our annual Career Day.

Her areas of expertise include criminal defense, speeding tickets and traffic, DUI/DWI, Drivers License Reinstatement, and Juvenile cases.  Cassandra Galvez, her assistant for three years, said her clients describe Heather as someone with "great insights on case law and who legitimately cares for her clients.  I personally find her to be very inspirational," she added.  Heather's practice finished third in this category last year.
For Dan Jurjovec '95, owner and president of Lakewest Custom Homes, this is the sixth consecutive year that his firm was singled out as Best Custom Builder in Naperville.  A graduate of the University of Illinois, Dan entered the homebuilding business when he realized after six months in the corporate world that he was not cut out for working in a cubicle.

Lakewest Builders was started by his father, for whom he worked as a young boy during summer vacations.  It concentrated more on building new homes in growing subdivisions.  Dan literally learned the business from the ground up by carrying lumber, hauling roofing materials, framing, and doing all sorts of odd jobs.  When he went on his own, Dan opened Lakewest Custom Homes which specializes in working with clients who acquire tear down homes in Naperville, primarily in the downtown area.   They pride themselves on creating a custom home building experience that only a family owned and operated business can provide.

Dan and his wife, Nicole, who is on our school's Advancement Board, have two children enrolled at Saints Peter and Paul, Dan Jr. who will be entering fourth grade and Ellianna, who will be in kindergarten.  As you can tell, there is already another generation of builders in the pipeline as Dan Jr. has learned to drives the bulldozer this summer.

SSPP Trivia

When our school was founded in 1853....

....students couldn't even dream of being in the Olympics because the early games were banned in 393 A.D. because they were seen as a pagan festival.  It wasn't until 1894 that the modern-day summer Olympic Games were born.
