We're ready for another great school year! How about you?

Sometimes the best way for students to make sense of a concept they are learning on a computer or in a textbook is for them to see it come alive outside of the classroom. And with the help of Northville Educational Foundation and community partnerships, Northville Public Schools is doing just that.

The Village Workshop - NEF is proud to support a new partnership with Northville High School and The Village Workshop. The Village Workshop is a member-based Maker Space filled with every possible machine to work on nearly anything that comes to mind. It connects its members back to vocations, technologies and the spirit of do-it-yourself invention.

Now that connection is being offered to Northville High School students studying engineering, architecture and other similar disciplines. Through a grant from NEF, these students will have the opportunity to create state-of-the-art projects using equipment not available at the high school. It will allow them to become stronger designers by seeing if their concept is practical and actually buildable.

Detroit Zoo - Every sixth grader throughout the district will have the opportunity to visit the Detroit Zoo twice this school year to conduct experiments related to animal habitats and the impact of our changing climate through a new partnership with the Detroit Zoo and support from NEF.

The biology standards embedded in the sixth grade science curriculum focus on nature's habitats and our changing globe. This experience will enhance and reinforce the knowledge the students gain in the classroom.

Community partnerships like those above help students gain access to a range of learning opportunities and developmental supports allowing students and teachers alike to experiment with new approaches to teaching and learning. Your support of Northville Educational Foundation has allowed NEF to bring these unique programs to Northville's students.

Going back to school (or work) after the lazy days of summer can be challenging even for the best of us.

Professional organizer Monica Friel admits the deluge of back-to-school paperwork and mail can feel overwhelming even to her.

"It's hard for me to keep up with it all," said Friel, a mother of three children. "I can imagine what chaos can ensue when there aren't systems in place."

But don't worry. Right@Home™ is here to help. We consulted not only Friel, who owns and operates Chaos to Order™, but a collection of other moms who shared their tried-and-true secrets for mastering the fall frenzy.
