vative ways to teach reading, writing, math, nutrition, science and other subjects have two opportunities to win a free trip to National Agriculture in the Classroom's National Conference 'Show Me Agriculture' in Kansas City, MO June 20-23, 2017.
Florida Agriculture in the Classroom offers its Florida Excellence in Teaching about Agriculture Award

American Farm Bureau's Foundation for Agriculture offers another opportunity for general education teachers and educators nationwide to apply for scholarships to attend the national conference. The White-Reinhardt Scholarship pays up to $1,500 for teachers and educators to attend the national conference. The deadline for applications is Oct. 15, 2016. FAITC Celebrates 30 Years
Florida Agriculture in the Classroom, Inc. this year celebrates its 30th anniversary. In addition, 2016 marks the 20th anniversary of the Ag Tag specialty license plate, FAITC's main source of funding.
The Gainesville-based non-profit organization has been educating Florida teachers and students in kindergarten through 12th grade about the source of their food, fiber and fuel and the importance of the Florida agriculture during that time.
FAITC has used those funds to create educational materials, teacher workshops, teacher and volunteer grants and Florida Agriculture Literacy Day to tie agricultural concepts to lessons involving reading, writing, math, science, social studies and more.
In addition, FAITC has launched a school garden program with its curricula Gardening for Grades, Gardening for Nutrition and soon to debut STEMming Up Gardening for Grades, $500 school garden mini grants and school garden workshops/farm tours for teachers.
The organization estimates it reaches more than 6,000 teachers and 160,000 students each year on average.

To celebrate these milestone events, FAITC's board of directors and staff invite everyone to attend a special dinner called 'Boots, Barns and Books' the evening of Thursday Nov. 3 at Sunny Acres Lodge in Polk City. The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services' Chef Justin will be on hand to make some special dishes, and participants who arrive early can go on buggy rides and participate in a clay shoot on the scenic property in Polk County.To learn more about the event, Click Here.

| Teacher, Classroom Grant Deadlines Fast Approaching Florida K-12 teachers with projects that strengthen students' reading, writing, math, nutrition and science skills while educating them about the source of their food, fiber and fuel are in luck. Florida Agriculture in the Classroom and other organizations  are offering grant opportunities to fund these projects. FAITC Teacher Grants - Eligible projects for Florida Agriculture in the Classroom's Teacher Grants include classroom and schoolyard gardens, animal science projects such as embryology and more. CHS Classroom Grants - Eligible projects for National Agriculture in the Classroom's CHS Classroom Grants include school gardens, animal science projects and field trips and farm tours. FFBF Ag in the Classroom Mini-Grant - Florida Farm Bureau Women's Leadership Program is proud to offer $250 grants to all Florida K-12 teachers. The deadline to apply is Sept. 15. Farm Tours
Florida Agriculture in the Classroom is planning three teacher workshops and farm tours this school year. The workshops feature demonstrations of K-12 school garden lessons in the morning, and related farm tours in the afternoon. For more information

FAITC Fall Workshop/Farm Tour, Nov. 4
in St. John's County where tours will cover fall crops such as cabbage, potatoes and greens.
FAITC Winter Workshop/Farm Tour, February 2017
in Indian River County/Treasure Coast area where school garden lessons and a tour of a citrus grove will be included.
FAITC Spring Workshop/Farm Tour, May 2017 in Polk County where school garden lessons and a tour of a citrus production facility will be featured.
