Welcome Home - Sunday, September 11

Following our  Ingathering please plan to join in a
welcome back potluck picnic  after the service.
S ay hello to friends & catch up after the summer.
We will also begin celebrating the

160th year  anniversary
of our congregation.

Water Communion + Ingathering

September 11 is the first worship service of the new year.
Remember to bring water that represents your summer in some way.

Pulpit Announcements

We heard you! Announcements Sunday morning will be reduced to those that are most important and timely. We know that long announcements before or during worship can be distracting and reduce your enjoyment. We also know that there are things congregants need to know. If you have an announcement, please be sure to send it to Margie to include in the Scoop
(deadline Tuesdays at 9:00 am).
This will ensure they will be in the program.

If you can help, please contact Sue McAnanama for all the details. Email [email protected] or call me 607-759-8495.

Pastoral Care Associates

Pastoral Care Associates: If you're interested in offering pastoral care to your co-congregants during Peggy's sabbatical (January 1-May 31), please let her know. This is a meaningful way to serve your congregation and our bruised and hurting world.

   Young Adult Group
Young Adult (Ages 18-35)

We are thinking about starting a Covenant Group (like Small Group Ministry) for the young adults in our congregation. It would meet once or twice a month on Friday evenings. If you are interested in being part of this group,
please contact Emily DeTar ([email protected])

She will create it if there's interest.
(This new group would begin in September.)

Journey Group Leaders Needed

We are starting a new Journey Group to meet once a month on Friday night. We need two leaders for this group. Leaders will get both training and monthly materials to help lead the group. In addition, you will be invited to join a leaders group where you can meet monthly with other Journey Group leaders in other congregations. (Journey Groups are very similar to Small Group Ministry Groups.) If you're interested, please see Rev. Peggy Clarke.

A Failing Democracy?

Our denomination has taken up the question of how our democracy is working and how it's not working as intended.
Our congregation, in partnership with the congregation in White Plains, will start a Democracy Team to participate in this denominational investigation. We'll begin by reading Parker Palmer's book Healing the Heart of Democracy: The Courage to Create a Politics of the Human Heart. Please join us for our first conversation on Sunday, September 25th
after worship. (More details to come.)

Reading Group

Tuesday, October 4
@ 11:00 AM

One of the greatest Unitarian theologians of the 20th century was James Luther Adams. We're going to read three of his essays (one a month). Pick up a copy of The Essential James Luther Adams and join us!

Lend a Ride

Our Ministerial Intern, Emily DeTar,  is looking for people who would be interested  in giving her rides to the church from the Hastings train station  on different Sundays and other weekly events.

It would make such a big difference  if you would be so kind  to lend a ride.

Buying  Groceries ? Buy Gift Cards!

Please note this change for this month only:

Sept 11th and 18th

Stop and Shop Gift Cards are still being sold as a way to raise money for our church. They are great gifts for family and friends -
