Clark County Fair!
Clark County Fair - September 12-18, 2016

All 4-H youth who will be exhibiting livestock, poultry and rabbits must complete a registration form.  Registration Forms are available at the Extension Office.  Forms are due September 1, 2016 and must be mailed to the Clark County Fair Association.

The theme of the fair is "Saddle Up & Ride."  Some 4-H Clubs have already reserved an Educational Booth space, but if yours has not, then do so ASAP!

The fairgrounds prep/clean-up day for the livestock exhibitors will be Saturday, September 10th.  ALL LIVESTOCK EXHIBITORS NEED TO BE THERE.

Attention Poultry Exhibitors!!!

All poultry, including 4-H poultry chain birds have to be blood tested this year.  There will be no exemptions!  

A certified tester will be set up in the County Road Shop parking lot from 3:00 pm - 6:45 pm on Monday, September 12, 2016.  All birds must be tested before they are allowed on the fairgrounds.  

The cost will be $.50 - $1.00 per bird.

4-H Online Reminder!!!

4-H online will roll into the new year on September 1, 2016.  
Please remember to log into 4-H online and re-activate your 4-H membership.  
It is also a good time to recruit new 4-H members!  Invite a friend to join 4-H.  
County Volunteer Leader Training

     There will be a MANDATORY County Volunteer Leader Training on Monday, October 3rd from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the ALCOA room in the H.S.U. Community Education wing of the same building as the Extension Service.

     4-H Volunteer Leaders are required to obtain at least 4 hours of continuing education training each year.  If you are not able to attend, please notify Cindy.  We will work out alternate ways for you to achieve your training.

Livestock Skills Contest at County Fair

  Clark County 4-H will be hosting a Livestock Skills Contest at the Clark County Fair.  Here is the info:
  • This contest will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 pm (you can complete the contest at any time during this time period) on Tuesday, September 13th in the Youth Building and/or Livestock Barn. 
  • The contest will be open to all 4-H and FFA members 9 -19 years old (as of October 10, 2016) that have animals entered in the fair, including poultry and rabbits.
  • The contest will consist of the following categories for both Junior (ages 9-13) and Senior (ages 14-19) competitors:
  • Breed Identification (cattle, sheep, goats and hogs)
  • Livestock Equipment Identification
  • Retail Meat Cut Identification
  • Livestock Feed Identification
  • For the Senior (ages 14-19) competitors, the contest will also include a Written Quiz (total livestock industry).  In the event of a tie in the Senior age group, the written quiz will be used as a tie-breaker.
  • First, Second & Third Place winners in both the Junior and Senior competition will be announced during the show on Wednesday, September 14th.
  • The Clark County 4-H Foundation will sponsor rosettes for the top 3 in each age group and a $50 prize to the 1st place winners in each age group as well as some other prizes.

Southwest District Fair

 
     The Southwest District Fair will be held from September 27 - October 1st.  All district fair entries MUST be entered online at www.southwestarkansasdistrictlivestockshow.com EXCEPT for Potted Plant and Horticulture Show entries, which will be done on-site.
  • Extension Agents or Ag Teachers must put your entries in SHOWORKS and you will also be required to pay online as well.  You will have to print the receipt in order to document what you entered in the fair.  Livestock entry number tags will be given out by your Extension Agent/Ag Teacher or otherwise you will receive them once the item is brought for check-in. 
  • The deadline for Livestock entries is September 12th.
  • The deadline for Arts and Crafts entries is September 22nd.
Arkansas State Fair 2016

  The Arkansas State Fair will be held October 14-23rd. 
  • The online deadline for commercial and registered animal entries is September 1st.
  • The poultry and rabbit entries are due September 15th.
Clark County Teens Attend Citizenship Washington Focus
     Clark County Teen Leaders Ashleigh Owens and Madison Tate, along with Adult Leader Nikki Tate attended this summer's 4-H Citizenship Washington Focus trip to Washington D.C.
     This trip provided opportunities for them to:
  • strengthen their communication, leadership, and citizenship skills on a national level
  • understand the importance of civic and social responsibilities as they relate to the development of better citizens and leaders
  • get a  behind-the-scenes look at our nation's capital and the chance to meet Members of Congress

Congratulations to Mattie A.
Mattie was a member of the Arkansas 4-H WHEP (Wildlife Habitat Education Program) team that finished 5th place in the national contest in West Virginia.
 
Congratulations to Hannah H.
Hannah recently competed in the 4-H District and State Horse Shows and received the following awards: 
District - 2nd place Trail, 3rd place Showmanship, 3rd place Reining, 3rd place Horsemanship, 3rd place Ranch Riding, 5th place Stock Horse Mares, 7th place Stock Horse Geldings, 7th place Poles, Senior High Point Winner
State - 6th place Stock Horse Mares, 7th place Ranch Halter, 9th place Stock Horse Geldings, 11th place Ranch Riding
